Hi, as much as a pain in the rear that it is, that is not an uncommon issue. The fact that it plays your commercial man. discs is a good thing. Now, here are a few things to try. Always use discs for music not data. Do not use rewritable discs. And make sure when you burn your discs, be sure to close them. Hope that helps.
Testimonial: "Hi Richard, The CD's themselves are fine, i have been playing them in a CD player and they work in both a Honda Ridge-line and a Lexus Sport Utility. There is no label on my radio that indicates a MP3 file may be used. Could that be the problem? If so, what would be the best file format to burn the music as?"

Hi josh, there wasnt to many oem decks that would play mp3's. The manufacturer i.e.toyota would rather sell you a cd changer. I assure you if an oem deck played mp3 it would be on that face of your system. Now on to your next question. Not knowing what your using burn your discs, i would reccomend the opposite of your data settings. I hope that helps you out. Btw, cd are nice, but thank the lord for digital flash memory....lol take care.
