It happend as I was watching this afternoon. A black line started and the bottom of the screen and worked it's way up. The sound is fine. I turned it off and turned it back on and a partial picture appeared for a moment and wide vertical stripes appeared and again went black from the bottom up. Tried pluging into a different plug and same thing happened. I left it off for a few hours and tried again. This time there were two wide stripes on the right side with thin colored lines in them. I only had it on for a minute or two so I'm not sure it it was going to go black from the bottom up again or not. I watched a lot of videos on black screen with sound but none of them adressed the virtical lines. I am hoping this will help narrow down which part I might need. Can someone help please?
The main power supply regulator section circuit fault. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size..
