Sounds like your hard drive or memory chip that has a corrupt file that has affected it. Normally problems like this are only isolated to a specific game's save game files. If you have never had your console connected to xbox live then none of their updates or game patches would be present on your system; however other newer games you may have played, you might have noticed a you will need to update your system before you can play this game message on your screen. There are only 3 steps I can suggest the first is to reformat your system this will erase/revert everything to its default settings as if you're playing the console again for the first time. The 2nd would be to clear the concole cache and erase all updates. You do this method by going into system/memory/press y button/then press xx, left bumper, right bumper, xx if you do this correctly it will ask if you want to perform maintenance select yes. The 3rd option I have will erase any faulty updates which may have not completed etc. that may be causing an error, you do this by holding the synchronize button (just to left of power) then turn the power on, continue to hold the sync button until it loads completely then release. You will not receive any message or indication but any failed updates will now be removed from your system. Hope this helps, I would try these steps from 3 to 1 if I were you to, so hopefully you don't have to wipe all your saved games

SOURCE: I had all of my games installed on my xbox 360

There is no way to retrieve it. By deleting the games and their memory from the system, you've erased all of your progress with them.

I conected my hard drive to my friends xbox and recovered my old gamertag .... but im not fully on xbox live .. i have a silver account .. so i downloaded an update . when i put my hard drive in 'my' xbox...

The reason that you are not fully on xbox live after recovering your gamertag is because the gold subscription has ran out. The reason for your xbox not having your offline account is because you probably moved your account to your hard drive along with your saved games. If you cannot connect to xbox live, go buy a cat5 cable and connect it to your modem and it should connect you to xbox live so that you can download the update.

HOW DO I DOWNLOAD A GAME ONTO THE HARD DRIVE

Simply create an Xbox Live account and join Xbox Live. Once online go to the Marketplace in the dashboard and you can browse for any games you want to download. Then, once you have selected a game to download, the console will ask you where you wanted it to be saved, you should select hard drive and it's done.. Hope this helps.

Old Harddrive New Xbox

You will not have any problems using the Hard drive on your new console. The only catch is any Live Arcade downloads will not work offline until you do the DRM transfer. Even though you are using the same Hard Drive the DRM is married to the original console. They have made it easy to transfer now. All you need is to be logged into XBOX Live and a computer that is on the internet. Just turn on your console, log it into XBOX Live, and use the computer to go to www.xbox.com/drm That will solve all of your problems.

Ok we bought a new harddrive 120 gigs of memory and first it only had 117 but thats not the problem ... the problem is that when i tryed to look at an acheivment after we transfered everything over from...

Unfortunately without having a xbox live account all your achievements I'm afraid are lost. Next time before to link your account to at least a Silver membership (the free one) that way if you ever accidentally delete or lose your profile information, you can just recover your gamer tag from Xbox Live along with all your gamer info.

One more question though, does your 20gig hdd still contain your profile and gamer achievements? If so, you could most likely just copy it onto a memory card over to your 120gb hdd.

Also the reason its only 117gb, is the same reason all hdd are not the same size they are advertised. The manufacturer assumes 1000mB = 1GB when in reality 1024mB = 1GB. So 120,000mB (which is the physical size of the hard drive) divided by 1024mB = ~117GB.

New 360

Your old 20 gig will work with your new xbox, the hard drives are compatable no matter how old the 360 is. You can transfer all the stuff but you will have to call xbox and get a transfer kit. Its an adapter so you can attach both hard drives to the same xbox and a disc that runs the program. call 18004MYXBOX and tell them you want one. They are free and you will get it in the mail in around a week.
