You can through some data assistant tool to do that. Just plug your iPad with your computer, then open a data assistant tool, and choose some photos on computer, import the photos from computer to iPad directly.

You will need iTunes.
Plug your device into the computer and then when it pops up the summary of your iPad in iTunes (it will show your serial number and back up information) you will click on photos on the the left side.
You will then select "sync Photos" on the right side and you will be allowed to select what photo folder on your computer that you want to sync to the iPad.
It will make your life easier if you create a folder on your desktop with all the photos you want to sync.
Also, any photo that is synced to the iPad from the computer will not be able to be deleted off of the iPad. They will stay on there until you unsync them from the iPad via iTunes.
