I just bought my first digital video camera. A JVC GR-D779U. It uses the small mini tapes. There are no instructions on transferring the data from the camera/tapes to my computer. I assumed it would be simple. I have no clue how to do this. I hook up the video camera with the tape in it to my computer via a USB port, turned the camera to "play" and assumed some software would magical appear on my computer to walk be through this. I am running Windows XP on my computer.
Help!
Product called EasyCap, for about 15 bucks, "can be found online" Has USB plug. Use your cable that has the 3.5 pin that goes out to rca cable, yellow, white and red. EasyCap has the RCA to USB then to computer. Use Windows Movie Maker, comes with XP & Vista, capture while playing from there. I just converted about 20 full tapes from one cannon mini 8 and 15 from a jvc dv onto a TB drive.
As everyone has said, you need a dv (digital video) cable and a computer that has a dv input. you plug the cable into the dv port behind the flip out screen. The usb port will only download stills, I believe. I think that an sd card will only hold stills, and you must use the tapes. Works great if you have the cable and input on your pc. Vista works fine with it.
I have a tiny camera DV JVC GR-D770U, I have make films that I want to be able transferred on my laptop computer Dell the operating system is Vista and it not reconnait not the camera. is this Vista problem? [email protected]
I purchased an express (or pcmcia?) adaptor to firewire and would be able to use that, IF my express port worked...
Ok what you need to do instead of buying all this stuff that costs you about, 100.00, is buy an SD card. on the side of the camera you notice a slot and thats where you put the SD card in. these are about 12 bucks and it saves you money. next you have to buy a card reader. stick the SD card in the card reader and connect the card reader to your computer. thats all you need to do for about 25 bucks!
Yes.... Vista is the problem.... i hate vista
You have to buy a DV Cable. It doesn't work through USB. It should tell you this in the instruction manual. Mine did.
You can purchase a cable at the JVC site.
When you plug in the firewire a little info box should come up and then you hit record from tape and it just goes strait to your computer thats what mine did and i am running office xp home
You need a DV Cable - Page 41 of your instruction booklet.
Buy a firewire (if your computer has that type of connection) and download some coding software.

install first the bundled software with your camera turned on and plugged in to your pc and then restart your pc if its necessary..

A wire connection from the video camera to the camera came with the video camera. Am I too assume this is the "firewire"? I do have a firewire port in the front of my tower. I hook it up and I just assumed software would appear to upload my video from the camera. The instruction manual says nothing of uploading to a computer. So - - It appears my problem is I need editing software. Any suggestions on what I should buy.
p.s. I think it odd that the video camera instruction manual doesn't instruct the user how to upload the video from the camera to the computer. I would think most people want to do this.
