Trying to transfer music files from 250 to 320

I have a 250 gb freeagent that has mp3's taking up all but 27 gb. just got a new seagate 320 and want to transfer the muzik on the 250 to the 320 but when both are connected, the 320's light tends to go between bright and dim as if it is "breathing". the drive then cuts off not even being reconized and i never have enough time to transfer the stuff i need. i think it may b the power cord as i've swapped the cables and the drive with the old cord tends to work but i am not sure if i can have both hooked up to my desktop. my desktop has 3 gigs of ram if it even matters...could them being hooked up at the same time be the problem? or is it the power cord?

Do they have their own external power, or do they run only off of your computers power? If they are the latter then it could be a problem. If they have external power then maybe the new 320GB is faulty, it happens.

P.S. The bright and dimming of the light, the "breathing" is the method that many external enclosures use to indicate activity of the HD. My guess is that that's normal, and shows that your files are being transferred/read.

Certainly, any files that you write using Windows XP will be able to be read with Windows 7.

I'm not familiar with the CEEDO program -- did the author update it for Windows 7 ?

New computer/ Lost Seagate operating instructions

Just plug it in and the pc should detect it as a external HDD and show up as one of the drives. You can copy all the data to it and transfer it to your new PC.

Formatting my Freeagent 1tb external hard drive for my Mac?

the problem is that your western digital operates using the NTFS (New Technology File System) which is the standard file system of Windows. Apple macs is not interopable with native NTFS therefore you need to install a read-write NTFS file-system driver on your mac.

an excellent free mac NTFS driver can be found here-
http://mac.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/NTFS-3G.shtml

download and install the software then restart your mac.
