For ~$30, you can purchase a stand-alone bobbin winder (Sidewinder) that you can use to wind your bobbins. Saves wear-n-tear on your machine and you can wind bobbins without unthreading your machine. Just be sure to verify your bobbins are compatible with the Sidewinder.

SOURCE: Bobbin winder is only thing that works

What model are you talking about? For my older Husqvarna machine you had to pull the bobbin winding bit out to wind the bobbin, then push it back in when you were done.

SOURCE: Bobbin Winder won't release

i have a husqvarna rose, i has the same problem when i started using my machine. i was suggested to not wind the bobbin so fast. the reason it gets stuck is because the thread is so tight on the bobbin it actually makes the bobbin a tiny bit smaller, making it hard to get off again. if you dont wind it so fast, it doesn't get so tight.

SOURCE: bobbin doesn't fill in bobbin winder

The bobbin winder question is a frequent one and it is very easy to solve. If you look at the shaft where the bobbin sits on the bobbin winder, you will notice that it has a slot in the middle of the shaft, an opening if you will. This is where you use a flat screw driver and open that space more to give more friction to the bobbin so it is not loose on the shaft. That slot was made for that. There are different bobbins on the market so thats why the slot is there. If it is too tight, grab a pair of pliers and close the gap. The metal of the bobbin winder on that shaft is malleable exactly for this reason. No need to put plastic bag material or anything like that. Use it as it was intended for.

SOURCE: Bobbin winder shaft won't spin. LCD says bobbin winding.

Mine stopped working too. Gave up and wound bobbins by hand for a while until I broke down and took the machine apart -- an ordeal to figure out. I found that a pliable ring on the winder was completely disintegrated (gummy plastic-like stuff). An online search found this -- a bobbin "tire" which I THINK is the part I need: http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/bobbin-winder-tire-brother-x55238051.aspx. Hope this helps. --Also cleaned all the lint out when I had the machine opened up. They don't make it EASY!

Singer Tradition - my bobbin winder has stopped winding so I have to wind thread on manually.

Check on a standalone bobbin winder called "Sidewinder." Make sure it is compatible with your bobbins--some bobbins won't work on the Sidewinder. If it is compatible, then for ~$30 you can wind all your bobbins. (I have one that is powered by battery or by electricity.)

Bobbin winder not working

The thread needs to be hand wound on the bobbin first. Then hold the thread tail while activating the bobbin winder. There are machines that automatically wind bobbins but they are specialty machines and have no external bobbin winder mechanism.

Why won't the bobbin winder work

Difficult to diagnose without knowing the make/model and the symptoms. Best advice is to consult the owner's manual.

Make sure the handwheel center cap is loosened before winding the bobbin. Also, snap the lever toward the bobbin to activate the bobbin winder. Confirm that the correct sequence is followed in threading from the spool to the bobbin winder.

If you are unable to get the bobbin winder to work, for ~$25 you can pick up a stand-alone bobbin winder from the local fabric store (JoAnns or Hancocks) or even online (Amazon.com).

How do I fix my bobbin winder?

1. Take the top off.
2. Check to see if the bobbin winder has pressure as you move it back and forth. There should be. If not then check for a spring connected to the bobbin and reset it. There will be some kind of post to hook it to.
3. Place the bobbin winder in the "off" position and put the top lid back on.
4. Without putting the screws back in move the bobbin winder to the "on" position and to the "off" position.
5. There should be pressure either way you move the winder.
6. Loosen the hand wheel handle.
7 With the bobbin winder in the "go" position use your foot pedal to make sure it revolves.
8. Replace the top.

My bobbin won't catch on the bobbin winder, the metal post spins but the plastic singer style bobbin won't spin with it. What's wrong?

The bobbin may be stripped, or the bobbin winder might be stripped; try it with a different bobbin, to rule out the bobbin being the issue; if that doesn't work, look closely at the bobbin winder to see if it has been damaged. You may be able to adjust it's shape with a pliers

My machine will not thread any bobbins.

Your bobbin winder has seized. Remove the top cover and oil the area where the bobbin winder shaft goes through the bobbin winder assembly. You might need to force the winder to turn with your fingers for a while, but it will begin to turn smoothly once the oil gets in there.

If the black bobbin winder tire has a flat spot worn into it, you will need a new bobbin winder tire. Costs around a dollar.
