First do you see a light indicating that the TV has power? There are two power buttons on the TV (the main power and the regular power button). The red standby light will light up when the main power switch is on. This indicator is just to the left of the remote I/R sensor. You can find the main switch on the bottom front of the tv (it is under the tv forward of the stand). Turn on the Main power if it is not on. Then try the power button on the control panel of the TV again.
Does the standby light change color or blink? (Red is standby, orange is power savings (no signal), blue is on.) If the main switch is on and the standby light doesn't come on, the TV has a problem at the power supply. Try unplugging the unit for a bit (at least 30 seconds) and then plugging it back in. This will reset the internal circuitry. If you see a blinking light, then the TV is reporting a self-test failure. I do not know the codes for this model Hitachi Plasma TV.
When the light blinks 4 times it means you can possibly have 4 problems with your plasma.
1. X-Sus
2. Y-Sus
3. Power Supply
4. Sdr U or D
A good way to determine if you can fix this problem yourself is if you can build a PC. If you cant this can cost you upwards of 600$ to fix.
First get a flat area and lay a soft blanket down and lay your TV down so the back is up. Then goto your PC and goto Google and type "P50T501 Service Manual .PDF" you can buy it or if you look hard enough you can get it for free. Next in the service manual it will have a diagram of the Circuit Boards and their locations. Take the back off your Plasma and check the 4 boards. Look for burn marks, cracks, smoke mark. Take your time and look closely. When you find the broken boards unplug it and take the part number and find the replacement online. Plug it in and you should be good to go.
When i had 4 blinking lights i had to change my SDR U and D boards. They cost 100's a piece for Refurbished boards. Keep in mind im a contractor not a techno geek, and i was able to diagnose and fix my problem rather easy.
A fuse has probably blown inside the TV, I had something similar with a panasonic TV a number of years ago. Open the back up and use a continuity tester across your fuses till you find the right one...................dont forget to unplug it first !!
