Clutch vibration and jerking at slow speeds.

I have a craftsman 42" riding mower and the clutch pedal started vibrating excessivly. When I slowed down I notice the mower has a jerking motion when driving forward. When the mower is in neutal you can still feel the vibration in the clutch pedal and the vibration stops after enganging the parking brake.

I would appreciate any sugestions that may be problem.

Thanks for everyone's input! This was very helpful.

I bought a new belt and when I went to change the belt I noticed that the belt had somehow been flipped so it was running inside-out on the pulleys. I flipped the old belt to have the correct side in and it fixed the problem.

    Thanks again for the help!

    Thanks for your input!

When I looked at the belt I noticed that somehow it got flipped inside-out. I turned the belt with the correct side facing the pulleys.

This seems to have fixed the problem and I appreciate your help!

Check the drive belt. It probably has chunks missing or at least has flat spots (narrow spots) that cause the belt to jump every time it goes around a pulley. That will set up a heck of a vibration. Also check the pulleys for free movement. The drive belt is above the blade drive belt....

HEAVY VIBRATION OF MOWER DECK (CRAFTSMAN17.5 HORSE TRACTOR?)

Even new blades can be out of balance, but my guess would be either the other blade spindle, or the tensioner pulley bearing.

My craftsman 17hp lawn tractor shutters bad when releasing the clutch pedal. is it the clutch and where is it located?

Its not really a clutch, clutch/brake pedal when pressed will release belt pressure which stops pulley from turn axle. When predded all the way down it mechanically applies brakes. The vibration is from a bad pully that the drive belt rides on or a bad belt. Look for chucks of belt missing. With engine off put on parking brake and manually wiggle each pulley that drive belt rides on to see if there is any play. No play should be present. Good luck.

Craftsman riding mower won't move.

yes it is a bad belt unless it is a hydro-stat(no clutch) you need to look under the mower and see if the belt is on correctly

If the tractor stopped abrubtly, you may have bent something pertaining to the frame or the clutch pedal assembly if you caught your weight on the clutch when it stopped. Sears parts.com has en exploded view if you enter your model number
