Canon PowerShot SD780 IS camera, 1 month old, will not turn on. Camera shows the canon screen, then turns black and beeps three times, then says "lens error, restart camera". I don't know how to restart, but I need to use it on a trip and I'm leaving in 9 days.. What do I do?
Sounds nuts, but slap it softly a couple times in the palm of your hand. what ever is jarring the gears for the lens inside gets freed up. it worked for mine - i was soooo happy!! if the above doesnt work, try this.
Pushing the Power button and the OK button for a few seconds at the same time worked for me! Thank you "jildo" I was worried about my camera, but you're suggestion was a quick fix!

I have the same problem with the same camera, except i think theres more wrong with my lense than it just being jammed. BUT, i did get the lense to come all the way out by holding down the shutter button and the power button to turn it on. if that doesn't work i also read you can try pressing the center OK button while pressing the power button to turn it on
Remove the battery, let it sit for at least 2 hours, then put it back. if the error still occurs and the lens is not retracting, consult the warranty for the device as the lens assembly gears may be at fault.

Thxx everybody,
I had the exact same problem, "Lens error, restart the camera". I clapped the Lens into my Hand, and the problem went away!
