I have a Goldstar GHD30 dehumidifer that I bought used last week. It's pulling 20-30 pints of water each day out of my basement so it appears to be working. The compressor only runs for 1-2 minutes at a time then shuts off for a minute. It never stops this cycle, 24hrs a day. Coils and filter are spotless. Is this how it's supposed to work? From what others tell me I expected the cycles to be longer.

Yes cycles should be longer either that or the unit is keeping close to desired humidity. Also the unit is under sized 30 pint is for 400sqft. or 20 by 20 room. humidity should be 30/50 percent check your level desired room temp is 70 degrees but its a basemnt 60 works.

The dehumidifier is running constantly but no water is being collected

Sounds like you're in a wintery environment. Most people operate a humidifier in those locations because the air is too dry. If that is your situation, I suggest you turn the dehumidifier off until Summer and save electricity. If will pull moisture out of the air in the summer.

IIt may very well be that the the air intake filter needs to be removed and cleaned. But, before doing this, turn the unit OFF & unplug it. Allow the unit to completely thaw, before removing the filter.Never operate the unit without the filter in place, As this could damage the unit.

Hope this helps you & thanks for choosing FixYa.

Golstar dehumidifer

Either you are under sized. or it is over heating. 50 pint should be used in 1000sqft area. it maybe over heating or the vents maybe plugged one of these is your problem.

Makes a crackling sound while running

If the room tempature is close to 60, the coils may be frozen (completely encased in ice). If this is the case, move it where the water can drain off - about 1 gallon which may NOT run into the drain bucket.
I out mine over the floor drain.
Turn off and it will defost over night.
Only specially made dehumidifers work below a room temo of 60 degrees (the temp of a basement in winter).
Does it need to be running? A digital humidity sensot from Radio Shack is cheap and may tell you the humidity is OK - only 50% or less.

Goldstar dehumidifier model DH305Y6 is there an outlet on this model for a hose so can drain into sump pump?

I have a Goldstar dehumidifier, Model DH305Y6. I bought it about 5 years ago at a local Walmart. During the summer I run it in the basement, here in south-central Pa. When it was brand new it worked very well, for about 2 yrs. Then it began turning on & off very irregularly. At first I thought it was the sensor on the front of the coils. So I moved it to the lower left side of the coils, and had the same results. The other day the water heater in the basement developed a leak. About 300 gals. of water covered the floor. After sumping/wet-vac'ing down to a wet carpet, I pulled out the dehumidifier and plugged it in,(the filter was cleaned before put away last summer). It began its on/off cycling again. It runs for about 2-3 mins., then shuts off for about 5-10 mins. So, I took the On/Off switch apart and read the resistance. It read 48k, for the 50k switch. I turned the switch all the way left to all the way right and it went from 48k, down to about 8k. The two wires to the switch were attached to the #2 and #3 poles,(only 3 poles). I did some testing, then removed the wires and re-soldered them to the #1 and #3 poles. I put everything back together, and now it works. It runs constantly, but it works/runs just fine. I need to get the basement dry, so I will let it run until the job is done. In the Spring I will get a new 50k potentiometer,(on/off switch), and see if that works. I will post results if I remember to.

Dehumidifier won't shut off

Well your dehumidifer runs constantly. My guess seeing how you bought a 30 pint per 24 hrs. Your house better be 400sqft. It is under sized and humidity need to be 30/50 percent to stop mold growth. It cant keep up its two small 50 pint are for 1000sqft 65 pint is 1300sqft. Upgrade now!!!!!
