SOURCE: Admiral Washer smells like mildew

yes it could . If you are trying to pump the water 7 feet or more above the floor then it will at the end of the cycle get air into the drain hose causing cavatation, the result when the machines stops is the water running back down the drain hose back into the tub and that is what causes the musty smell.
Lower the drain if possible

SOURCE: Smelly washer

I found out the hard way. The GE WCVH6260 fron loading washing machine has a terrible design flaw. There is a 'filter' that sits right in front of the discharge pump. This filter clogs with lint, coins, hair, dollar bills ... etc about every 3-4 months. When it 'clogs', the pump cannot '****' the dirty water through the gunk. As a result, you have nasty, stale water (forever) preventing dirty water from being flushed. What's worse is that since the dirty water cannot leave, you wind up washing/rinsing your 'clean' clothes with dirty water. It is easy to fix.

When looking at the front of your washing machine, there is a rectangular panel at the bottom. Remove the 3 screws (left, right and center) and pull down on the panel. It slides off easy. Right in front of you is a 3" cap. MAKE SURE TO HAVE A LARGE POT TO CATCH THE SLOP BEFORE YOU LOOSEN THE CAP. Remove the cap and pull out. (I took out 'gunk' the size of a tube of racket balls (coins, hair, dollar bills .. etc). You will also see/smell what I mean by 'dirty water'

GE is a bunch of idiots. We have only had our machine 12 months. This is obviously 'regular maintenance' kind of stuff (kind of like periodically cleaning the lint filter on the washing machine) and GE doesn't even make the 3" cap accessible from the outside. I checked the manual and these problems are not even FAQ's in the manual:
* machine 'pauses' between every cycle (push start to continue)
* clothes smell musty
* water doesn't drain
* cycles (consistently) take longer than timer says
* clothes still soaking wet even after spin cycle ... etc)

SOURCE: terrible mildew type smell

Water forms in the Bellows it is a rubber boot between the door the drum.. clean this out real well ..To prevent this in the future leave the door cracked open when you are done using the machine to allow it to dry out.

SOURCE: how do I get rid of mildew smell in Siemens UltraSense front-load

After your last wash for the day, wipe the water from the rubber door gasket and leave the door propped open between washes. I usually stick a folded up washcloth in the top of the door frame at the hinge to make sure no one closes the door. This is a problem with all front loaders.

Awful smell! I drain it every cycle, I use the washer cleaner, everything! I am so sick of my towels smelling awful.

Sounds like the little flexible apron just in front of your washer drum has mildewed. Take a look and see if it is holding water, and look for mold while your'e at it. Use a good bathroom mold and mildew remover to kill the mess and deodorize it.

Odor problems with whirlpool front load washer

Is the smell of mildew?

Run the washer on empty with beach and soap.

This is a common problem when the front door is left closed after use.

When the washer is not in use leave the front door cracked open. This will help in preventing mold & mildew.

What is the sanitation cycle for on Model

Typically "sanitation" cycles require hot water....then they add more heat to the washer during the cycle. It is not 212 degrees, but it is very hot and does kill most germs.

The mildew smell is normally caused by water remaining in the system lines - because the water drain pipe is too high and keeps too much water inside after the system pumps the interior pan. Suggest that you just pour in some bleach after the last load...that should kill all mildew. Please do not overdo it. Only about 1/8th to 1/4 cup is needed to keep the mildew smell under control

Hi, I have a hoover front loading washing machine and inside the drum seal there was a lot of mildew as I accidentally left some damp tea cloths inside the drum and the machine wasn't used for 2 weeks....

Run your washer with 2 cups of bleach, maximum hot water. After it starts agitating for a minute, stop the washer & let it remain for 2 hours. Then continue the wash.

Kenmore washer smells/mildew on rubber

The smell problem is actually because of the softener....its nassssty stuff it coats the interior of the washer and forms a grease like residue. I would use Washer Magic (available at all appliance parts retailers) (only half the container in front loaders) and a hot wash. Also keep spraying the boot with bleach and water soluiton every few hours it will dissappear after awhile. please rate my help
