You should have had in the box with your Surface 3 Tablet a charger. It will have a plug with 2 points that is for your power plug, and at the other end you will have a natty little flat magnetised plug for the side of your Tablet. Mine is at the bottom right slot, looking at the screen of your Tablet. Now when the power is turned on, a small bright light will glow. That is now informing you that the battery in your Surface is being charged. Now at the bottom right of your Task bar, that is the Bar on the bottom of your screen where you can place program short cut Icons for your convenience. Now the speaker Icon which is there toward the right-hand side and has a cross if off, or a different look when on. Now the next icon on its right is the one that tells you how much charge is in the battery, if you touch it, it will come on to the screen informing you how much charge you have in the battery. If I'm using my Surface a lot and I do I keep it on charge while I work as a precaution to keeping my Surface well topped up. Hope this helps.

I have a Surface 2. Does it come with a built in driver?

Yes it should drivers, that's what make everything work. When you do an update Microsoft will at some stage include Driver updates as well, that is why Updates are so important as they keep your Tablet computer, working as it was designed with the improvements to the system over time. Now I started with a Surface 2, and then over time I upgraded to a Surface Pro 3, then a Pro 4, which I have at the present time. I made sure mine had 16 gigs of memory and 256 gigs of storage which I find is all I need as I use an external drive of 1 Terabyte for storage. I also found over time that if the charge is dropping while in use I just put it back on to charge to keep the battery well charged at all times. By doing all these regular housekeeping duties with the Surface, they have never let me down. I like my Surface Pro 4, you probably would to, but now they have Surface Pro 6's on the market and they are just the best of Tablets that you can buy, even though a tat on the dear side, but that's what you get when you buy Quality. Best of luck.

How do I Stop my Microsoft surface pro 5 battery from losing charge so quickly

There are no surface pro 4's or 5's yet unless you are an engineer at Intel. If you want it to stop discharging so quickly- turn it off, and no I don't just mean put it in standby. You need to power it off completely- that way you will keep it from eating your battery when not in use. These things boot so fast that the inconvenience of 15 seconds is not worth the hassle of a dead battery coming out of sleep after a day or so.

MS surface will not turn on

1. Assume battery has sufficient charge
2. Assume no physical damage to unit, liquid, dropping etc
3. When turned 'on' can an updated OS be installed?
4. Any other faults or problems noticed?
5. Remove all peripherals and reboot
6. Go to this link: www.microsoft.com/surface/en-gb/support/warranty-service-and-recovery/surface-wont-turn-on

Surface shows that battery is not charging icon flasheson and offwhen chargecord is installed

Check for dirt in charge port; if dirty try a clean dry toothbrush to clean the contacts.
If still buggy, consider taking to store and see if it charges with sample power supply.

Bought the Surface 2 around Thanksgiving and have a couple issues I'd like to raise with the device

1) No, you are limited to the Windows Store. It is getting better all the time, just be patient and your favorite apps should show up soon.
2) Lowering the screen brightness is one of the best methods of extending your battery's charge.
3) You could use headphones or a bluetooth speaker to get better sound. There isn't much space inside these machines for decent speakers so they aren't ususually very good.
