The power light is on. It gets brighter once I turn the tv on, but will fade back down as if it were in standby mode.
To determine if the backlight driver or the T-Con board is the problem, di this. With the TV on shine a flashlight on the screen. Look for a faint picture. If you can see one then the backlight control board is bad. If you see no movement or any picture at all, the T-Con board is bad. First of all go into the audio menu settings and turn off the "surround" feature off and that should fix the voices/music differences. Does the craking sound appear while watching any sorce such as cable box,sat rcvr or DVD player? If not isolate it to that input and maybe that device is giving the problem.

There is a part inside
the TV that needs to be replaced. If the TV is under warranty—whether
the original warranty from the manufacture or an extended warranty
purchased with the TV—call the company providing the warranty
coverage and they will arrange to have your TV repaired at little, or
no cost to you.
Since some brands will
pay for your repair even if you're out of warranty, especially if
they've heard of your problem before and it's a known issue. You
should always contact the manufacture first for your full range of
options. If they're willing to fix the TV for free, or at a reduced
cost to you, let them!
If the TV is out of
warranty, and you have the experience and you know what you're doing,
you can fix the TV yourself. Purchase the service manual from the
manufacture to get started. However, if you've never done anything
like this type of repair before and you don't know where to start, I
suggest speaking with an experienced TV repair-person.
If you decide to pay for
out of warranty repair by a professional repair shop, the total cost
will likely be a minimum of $200 parts and labor. However, be warned
that the cost could be considerably higher.

SOURCE: Vizio 42 in TV LCD HDTV white line across to of
That white line (usually jagged) is actuallly part of the transmitted picture. However, you are not intended to see it because it is located in what is known as the 5% overscan area. Your TVs today are more than just cable ready... they are a versital, technology filled multimedia display. You can see that line because the screen size or wide mode you are using is intended for 1080p/24 signals. You have 0% overscan with this screen size setting. This allows you to see ALL of the picture, including portions of the picture the broadcaster did not intend for you to see. You can change your screen size using the Wide feature in the Setup menu. See pg.62 of your user manual for details and descriptions of the various wide modes.

Maybe getting a solution to this problem doesn't matter to you any longer, but I purchased three of this same model at the same time and two of them have failed. One with picture and no sound; the other with sound and no picture. I'm just going to swap the components until I discover what the problem is. I'll post the results if I achieve success.
