Video out problem

My DMR-ES20 is showing 2, side by side, black & white images on the tv screen. I had been using the s-video out port and it has worked fine since new 12-2005. I removed the s-video cable and tried the audio/video red, white, yellow cables with the same result. Any ideas?

I have one doing the same thing. I checked the video output signals and there is no vertical sync. I have no idea how to fix it.

I own a DMR-ES20 and had that problem. Panasonic Customer Service gave me a fix that works.
On the unit itself, press STOP and PLAY at the same time for about 10 seconds. This fixed my player.

Breezez,
I have been trying to resolve a similar problem for the last two days, i.e. everything is displayed in black and white (no colour) and as a double image showing diagonally. I had tried to reset using the remote control (pushing STOP and PLAY) but it did not work. Then I found your post which suggested pushing the STOP and PLAY on the machine and now the DVD recorder works again. Thank you.

Thankyou Breeze. I have returned two of them just to figure out that All I had to do is press the two buttons .. Thankyou wish it would have been in the manual.

I posted the same problem a few minutes ago for my DMR-E20. I never have used an S cable, just the three wire (yellow, white, red) hookup and I've had mine for about the same amount of time as you with no problems whatsoever. All I've done is disconnect and reconnect my cables to insure contact and made many attempts by turning off and restarting and ejecting and reinserting my DVD disc. I did get an "out of region" screen a few times, but not at present. I do recall that just before it went wacky, it took an unusually long time to reformat my rewritable DVD. It was the first time that ever happened.

Ps3 plays in black and white with av composite cable

Some newer TVs do not have the traditional "yellow" video input, known as an "AV" connection. Even without that input, you should be able to use the standard three-color Wii AV Cable that came with the system.

What to Do:

  1. Look for "component" inputs on your TV. These connections have a row of five differently-colored inputs (green, blue, and red for video, white and red for audio). If you have more than one set of component inputs, it's the first set that generally works with standard AV cables. Look for a set that has a green input with yellow around it, or the word "video" just above or below it.
  2. Plug the yellow end of the Wii A/V cable into this green "Y" input. Plug the white end into the audio "L" and the red into the audio "R." Leave the blue and second red holes open.
  3. composite_inputs_window.png
  4. Turn on your Wii console and set your television to the input select being used.
  5. If you are seeing the image from the Wii in black and white, try the following to get the image in color:
    • Cycle through your television's input channels (usually with the "Input Select" or "Source" button on your TV's remote control) to find the input select that has the image in color.
    • If you're only finding the image in black and white, you may need to switch the setting of the input select from a component signal to a standard AV signal. This can be done by:
      • An on screen menu option. This is often accessed by using the "Menu" button on the remote.
      • A button on the remote that switches between the standard and component signals. These can be labeled such things as "AV" or "Video."

Need to know how to connect to tv it comes on but in black and white

If you're using composite video cables (red/white/yellow) but your TV doesn't have a yellow jack to plug into, plug the yellow cable into the green "Y" plug instead. If there is more than one set of video jacks on your TV, make sure you're using the first set, usually labeled "Video 1" or "Component 1". If it still comes up in black and white after all that, you may need to look in your TV's settings menu to see if there's an option to change the settings for that port from Component to Composite.

If you're using component video cables (red/white & red/blue/green) make sure the cables are all plugged in to the proper color-coded ports on the TV. Mixing up the video cables can cause the image to show up in black and white

How can i play ps2 on lcd without having a black and white screen ? how can i connect the cables ?.....when i look at the back of my lcd i find three ports (red white yellow) when i use them the screen is...

1) The set of input (Yellow= Composite video, Red= Right channel audio, White= Left channel audio). This set of input is for composite video.

2) The set of input (Red= Red video signal, Green= Green video signal + sync, Blue= Blue signal, Red= Right channel audio, White = Left channel audio (the Red and White will be grouped close together). This set of input is used for Component video for HD signal.

You should try using composite video source (Yellow RCA jack) from DVD player and feed to the monitor and see if it works OK with all color showing that way we acn find out if it is the video source problem or the monitor video signal processing problem. Try the PS2 on the TV if it works OK also.

My 3 year old Panasonic VCR (DMR ES20) is still stuck at 000000 after a power outage. I have unplugged it, it says Hello but it won't open. If I press on Power for a few seconds, the blinking time shows up...

Hello, Ejband -

I believe your Panasonic DMR ES20 is a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) and not a VCR (Video Cassette Recorder.)

If you do not have the user manual for your DVR, you can find it here to download for free:
http://tv.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/panasonic/dmres20.html
It is a PDF document, so you will need Adobe Reader software (free).

I suggest you run through the set up procedures for your DVR, just as if it is a new installation. Among other steps you will need to reset the time (reset the clock.)

Did you check the device the camera plugs into to see if it could be the problem. The video input might be dropping the color burst signal.

VHS play back

I am having the same split screen black and white problem. I don't think anything simple will fix this. I have looked into the unit and almost all the video processing happens on one little PC board under the DVD. I think that the capacitors on the bottom of this board are at fault, as there have been MANY noted failures of Panasonic Professional DVC decks due to these type capacitors failing.

Video output showing black and white display

Make sure the DVD is not on the PAL system. Trying to watch a PAL dvd on a NTSC TV or DVD player will play it back in black and white only.
