I have a Soundcraft Spirix SX mixing desk that is stuck in PFL mode. All PFL buttons still function correctly but when all the buttons are off, the PFL light remains on and I cannot hear anything through the headphones. I'm guessing something is amiss in the Master section?

This is probably close to your unit:

Scroll down to "get Manual" and click on it. Circuitry is so simple... they don't show the transformer, only the rectifier and regulators.

No experience other than decades of electrical engineering experience. Verify that your amps AND this mixer all are powered from the SAME receptacle or power conditioning module. This means running your power back to the mixer and ANY other connected equipment alongside your snake. Powering equipment from building receptacles at opposite ends of a room subjects your equipment to noise ground bounce that CAN trip the electronic fuses in equipment or cause some devices to lock up. All pro's in sound carry an extension to bring power to the mixer from where their amps get the power.
If your equipment gets too hot, try a fan on it. Moving air doubles the power handling capabilty. If powering unit down and right back on takes another 5 to 10 minutes, it is NOT a thermal issue. It would fail again in a minute. Regulators often run hot... they should have thermal grease or the silicone transipad thermal pads... they are grey in color.

Check that the noise is NOT a funtion of an "effect" that the MAIN runs through. Do you hear it via the main amps or is it just in the headphones from the main? Pressing a PFL for a channel should bring ONLY that channel into the headphones UNLESS other PFL's are down... and NOT affect the main. Something is not clear here.
