Denon avr790 receiver with Samsung tv connected to hdmi output and Samsung bluray connected to dvd HDMI input. No picture or sound on tv.

The only digital audio input for this TV will be via the HDMI input. Of course, even with HDMI in, you're only going to get a simple stereo output from the TV. You can use the analog L & R audio inputs for a very similar sound from the TV speakers.

The digital multi-channel audio (Dolby Digital, THX, 5.1, 7.1, etc) encoded in the program should be connected to a suitable multi-channel amplifier with either a TOSLINK (optical), RF (coaxial) or HDMI cable for theatre-like sound. This can be done by (a) cabling from the source (DVD, BluRay Disk, Set Top TV Tuner, etc.) directly to a multi-channel amp and speakers, or (b) from the HDMI output of these devices (DVD, BluRay Disk, Set Top TV Tuner, etc.) into one or both of the TV's HDMI inputs. This will provide only stereo sound output from the TV speakers. You should connect the TV's TOSLINK optical "Digital Output" jack with an optical cable to the amplifier's TOSLINK optical input jack to obtain theatre sound.

To listen to the program shown, you would select the amplifier input assciated with the optical, RF or HDMI input that is connected to the source (DVD, BluRay Disk, Set Top TV Tuner, etc.) if connected directly. If the TV HDMI input(s) are used, they are output to the TV optical output and should be connected to the amplifier optical input. The amp input associated with the optical input should be selected to hear the program with theatre-like sound.

connect the hdmi to the tv (hdmi input 1) and to the receiver (hdmi output) you must make sure that the receiver input settings are assigned correctly. Then hook up all of your devices to the receiver. remember that the 1508 dosent do hdmi upconversion, so if you have any devices that are NOT hdmi, you need to run rca cables from the output of you receiver to the input of your tv. If you have any digital inputs coming out of your devices, i would recommend using them. your 1508 has two inputs that are assignable.
If all of your devices are hooked up to your receiver, and its hooked up to your tv properly, just turn down the sound on your tv, and turn up the volume on your denon!

This is a site where you can download a manual. I'm not familiar with Denen however, you should be able to go out of satellite receiver(HDMI) to your receiver input(tv/sat) then to your HDMI input on tv. Your receiver might show video and sound through another port of receivers options, ie; video 1, video 2, etc. Check all putput options for your picture and sound. Hope this helps.

Long and painful answer!!! However, in the end, you need to bypass HDMI thru your receiver and go direct to the TV. Connect Digital Coaxial or Optical for audio to your receiver. Your version of HDMI in your receiver is not compatable with today's HDMI version. Yours is 1.1a and the current version is 1.3b going to 1.4. If you want detailed info as to "why", just google "HDMI 1.1 problems" you can read for hours! Sorry for the bad news! However, it is what it is. Hope this helps. No, you would be better off sending the video signal from your sources(satellite,digital cable,DVD,BluRay player,any digital HD source,etc.)directly to your Samsung TV, and then use the fiber optic output from the TV to transfer the audio signal to your Denon receiver, or another way is to send all video signal to your TV and send all audio signal to your Denon receiver seperately, keep in mind that there really isn't a good reason to send video into a Denon receiver, that processes sound not picture! Optical carries only 5.1 sound, no video. HDMI carries both video and sound. If your receiver doesn't have HDMI, check your TV for optical output. You can go BluRay to TV via HDMI, then TV to receiver via optical.

If you don't have optical out on your tv, you're going to need either a receiver with HDMI or a BluRay player with component output (blue, green, red).

The best possible solution to your problem is :
Connect your blu ray player directly to the HDMI input of you Plasma and watch HD video....
and connect the 5.1/7.1 sound thru the optical or the coaxial link directly to your AVR 3805.
You will not loose anything on the Blu-Ray.
The sound is best processsed by the AVR3805, while the video, which is the real upgrade (BluRay) in terms of resolution of picture would be processed by your plasma.

nice gear. Without further information, i am going to describe the best setup possible with your equipment.

1. make sure the speakers are connected to the receiver and you can hear sound out of it

2. connect cable box to receiver via hdmi to receiver.Choose cable on the receiver or video1 etc. (if you are not using hdmi cables post annd i will walk uthruogh a non hdmi process)

3. connect a hdmi cable from thee receiver monitor output area to the tv hdmi input

4. connect the dvd player hdmi to the input of the receiver

to watch select the tv av mode to line up with the receiver and choose video1 for tv and dvd to watch dvds on the receiver.
