The control panel displays red door ajar light, red power loss light, blue quick freeze light, blue control lock light and 1'F HRS.

I have a kenmore elite upright freezer model 28712. When I woke up today the control panel shows as above. Checked freezer level, door closure, and power (plugged straight into wall). All were fine. Tried to reset panel built panel locked so unresponsive to any button presses. Nothing in manual about this.

The problem is in the circuit board behind the control panel. It has the screen that is indicates the Door ajar, Power Loss, Quick Freeze and the Control lock. The issue is a defective capacitor. This is about a $3 part and if you know how to soldier can be easily fixed. Unplug the freezer from power. Next gentle pry between the plastic of the control panel and the door. (Using something plastic to pry will save causing damage to the door or display frame.)
The cover should come off easily exposing the board. Next gently pry the board out as it is seated in a plug. Now with the board out look for a round cylinder type part. The defective one usually has a bulge at the top. The defective one that we replaced was located right beside the pins for the plug. Unsolder, remove the defective capacitor. Replace the exact voltage and uf number cap. plug it back it in. Place the control panel back in place. Plug the unit back in. You might encounter some lights such as power loss. Not to panic simply press "alarm reset". Hope this helps :)

SOURCE: Kenmore Dispenser Locks

You will be very glad to know I have an answer to your problem. I am guessing that your refrigerator was manufactured in 2002 between about March and November. This part does not really matter but I am giving you this as a history lesson. If I am correct Your model # starts with 253. and that means it was manufactured by Frigidaire for Sears. There was a glitch in the board that is in the panel you replaced that causes the problem you have described. You need to replace the board in the touch panel and your problem is gone. You will need to have the model number in order to order the part. The part will be available through Sears or other appliance parts dealers.

SOURCE: kenmore elite microwave oven displays "Locked" and will not respond

My Kenmore Elite microwave (don't have the model number in front of me) also mysteriously locked its own keypad (we were sitting in an adjacent room, heard a strange beep, and got up to find the LED reading "Locked."). I pressed and held down the Stop/Clear button for ~10 seconds and it returned to normal.

Door ajar light will not go off

Good Morning Friend, thank you for your inquiry!

Did your freezer previously experience a power loss? If the temperature of food rises to an unsafe level, the buzzer will sound and the red light, if equipped, will also glow. First, deactivate the alarm to your freezer by unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker. It is best to wait approximately ten minutes and then turn on your freezer. After deactivating the alarm and your freezer has run approximately four hours, the red light/alarm should go off on its own. If the red light/alarm continues to stay on, your freezer may possibly have a communication problem with the control board, temperature control or a wiring harness. If this is the case, I would recommend connecting with an experienced technician to determine the underlying cause.

Best regards! - Z

Why has my kenmore elite trio refrigerator started to intermittently started to chime

Hi! I am having this exact problem also. The best answer I have been able to discover is that it is related to the freezing up of the internal water tube that drains the fridge compartment into the freezer section. In addition, a pool of water freezes on the interior floor of my freezer and has to be manually chipped up and removed. I did try to unload the freezer and defrost it thoroughly, but it still happens and has to be chipped each week. I am still seeking a solution, but at least I can make the chiming stop by locking the temperature via the button on the front panel. Best wishes. If you discover a better or final soln, please post. I will do so as well.. Regards.

I can't turn my Kenmore upright freezer on.

Try disconnecting power for about 30 seconds, and then restore power. This will reboot the control and maybe restart.
