Started when temperatures dropped below zero but has continued and temperatures are back to 30's and 40's. Also hisses when started sounds like a tire losing air for first two minutes of idling.
Check all the vacuum hoses etc.under the hood going to the ecm or from the inlet manifold good luck
May have manifold or throttle body vacuum leak that seals to some degree after warming up causing hissing sound to diminish . Engine may think its running lean , then adds fuel causing lower mileage and rich stumbles . Is it throwing any codes ?
SOURCE: Losing Power
2.5L is really lacking on power. what had to do is route the air inlet tube for the filter box to the front of the truck right beside the radiator that what it pushes air into the motor and have more power. now the truck gets better gas mileage and has more power to get over the hill. only thing is the filter gets dirty more often and gas mileage goes down in the winter cause the cold air makes it use more gas

Well this could be in your timing. As cars get some miles on them the timing chain stretches therefore causing you car to lose alot of power. So you may want to have your timing set on this car. Also I had a taurus that had a bad torque converter, and it lost alot of power on hills and under loads, also when i gunned the gas pedal. so try the timing first. Hopefully you dont have a bad head gasket or a cracked head these symptoms you are describing are all signs of head gaskets or blown heads

your egr valve might be faulty bring it in to the auto parts to have it check out what your looking for is the 32 code on the OBD II scanner.
SOURCE: it loses power on acceleration and serious loss of power on hills
sounds like a clogged fuel filter. you need to have the engine pressure checked for leaks, you can rent the pressure checker at autozone, it connects to ur radiator and u pump pressure into the cooling system if u find water leaking around the head u know u have a blown head gasket. if ok then check the cylinder compression should beable to rent this also. it screws into the spark plug holes has a gauge on it. alternator problem w/ the light is probaly you need to tighten the belt.hope this helps!!!

Make sure the air tube from air filter to throttle body is tight , especially at the throttle body itself .
