My Neptune 5500BWW goes through all the cycles but the clothes all sit in one place, so I would assume that the drum is not spinning. It had been sounding louder when it was spinning previous to this but it wasnt anything that had unusual sounds it just seemed louder. I thought like our dishwasher over time the sound barrier doesnt work as well, obviously this was wrong. I am trying to decide if it will be worth it to call a repairman or just get new washer? After reading all the problems I am wondering if this will just lead to more. The washer was bought in 2003, and prior to this no problems which looks to me like we have been very, very fortunate for that length. Thanks and if u need more specifics please ask!!
Sounds to me like your repairman should be able to make short work on this. I may be mistaken but I would almost bet that your problem lies in a broken belt or a worn pulley. Most competent repair guys should be able to fix that within a couple of hours.
Other problems it could be are sticking pullies, a drum that is sticking, or a bad motor. Any of which should be easily fixable and cheaper than buying a new machine.
Central seal is broken and tub bearings are failing. Bearings can be replaced, though it's hard to do and special tools are needed. There are no separate part numbers for the bearing, and supposedly the outer tub has to be replaced, which is VERY expensive. Look up "neptune bearings" on ebay, you'll find some
If you think the wash load is in a spin cycle of the wash cycle or rinse cycle place the machine in Spin Only cycle and see if it will complete.
Waht are your DIY skills? Do you want to try the repair/fix?.............Rich

Found out the model was bad design, it would cost replacing the whole drum, motherboard etc. so we bought new washer after repairman came out and told us that. So much for Maytag being the dependibility people?!? Now heard that Whirlpool bought them so problems should be less...not sure if that is true or not...yet. THank you so much for your help!
