Here's the problem. I have two physical phone lines at our business we want to connect. When I connect our primary line into jack #1 and our "backup" line into jack #2, line 2 goes dead and when calls in our out on line #1 - it looks like both lines are the same. But when I switch out backup line into jack #1 and our primary line into jack #2 everything works fine. It's just a pain to have to retrain our staff that line #1 is really our backup line while line #2 is our primary number. Any ideas? RCA tech support told me it was a problem with our physical phone lines, but that sounds weird, as we have had one phone in the past (it was older corded one) handle the 2 lines with no problem

The Thomson folks said to reset the phone. Here's how: unplug power, then the phone line, then remove the batteries. Wait 10-15 minutes. Replace the batteries, then the phone line and finally, the power.
Note: We have 2 phones with these two lines and had to reset both of them to clear the "busy" on Line 1.

You have the wrong adapter probably. Most common types are single line splitters and will not work like you want. They only split line one and 2 gets blocked out as they only have 2 copper connector on the plug centered to get line 1 only. If you want to use an adapter you will need a 2 line splitter like this one:http://www.trianglecables.com/tellinsplitl.html
A simpler solution is to plug your fax into your phone. On top of your phone are multiple jacks labeled L1/L2, L2 only or L2/data. Plug your phone into the wall using the L1/L2 jack then plug your fax into the L2 jack and this will work fine and still allow you use of line 2 on your phone. If you don't want to hear the ring then set your fax machine to auto answer. Hope this helps you.

If you want to use the conference feature built into the phone, you need to have two telephone lines. You can't conference (3-way) with a single line.
If you have a single phone line with 3-way calling service provided by your telephone service provider, follow their instructions. Normally the procedure is to call party 1, press the "flash" key on the phone to get a second dial tone, call party 2, then flash again to conference. But you need to have the service.

Most likely the problem is the cord from the wall to the phone. There are two types of cords and they look almost identical. Look closely at the connector. A single-line cord will have only two gold pin at each end. A two-line cord will have four gold pins at each end.
You need a two-line cord to get both lines from the wall to your phone. Since you have had the problem with several phones, that is the most likely cause.
SOURCE: Have an RCA executive series. the light for the
I have an RCA Executive Line 4-line phone. I was away for a week, and came back to find the speakerphone when I dial out is significantly muffled on some of the lines (people that I am calling complain of noise on the line). If I take it off speaker, the quality on the handpiece is normal. First, I thought it was the batteries, so I replaced them. Didn't change. Is there a reset? Is the phone (base) after less than 1 year defective?
