Was having problems with the paper not feeding from tray one (this printer has only one tray). I bought a new printer tray for the lexmark c720 and had the same problem. I cleaned the rubber feeding roller and that fixed the paper feeding problem. The next time I went to use the printer I got the message tray 1 missing. I re-inserted the paper tray and tried the other paper tray that I had and got the same message.
I have the service manual for the printer and looked up the message - Tray 1 Missing, and input tray is missing from the printer. They said to check the tray, the cassette set sensor, and connectors DCN6 and DCN8. I had already checked the tray and it was fine, but I could not find in the service manual where the cassette set sensor was or the connectors DCN6 and DCN8 are.
The copier has not been used that much over the past seven years, has 18000 copies on it.
Any help or suggestions you could give me would be much appreciated.

There are some Lexmark color laser printers that are capable of black-only printing w/o the color cartridges installed, unfortunately, the Lexmark C720 printer is not capable of printing with only the black cartridge installed.
try cleaning the feed wheels with a arisole electronic contact cleaner these get a glue composite build up on them and contact cleaner will remove it with out leaving behind any residue and make sure that the paper guides in the tray are not set against the paper to tightly. i have also seen these pick wheels (the rubber tire) be so loose on the shaft that they slip causing this problem.
If service were required, Lexmark would have offered to place the service call for you.
Go ahead and order the parts, if they look to complicated to install, then you can place a service. Most "C" level color lasers require on-site service and should not be taken to a dealer.
Slipping paper feed rollers is probably causing the jamming. Remove the paper tray and tip the machine back so that you can access the feed rollers from underneath. A good technique to isolate this problem is to remove the rubber feed tires, turn them inside-out and refit them. If it now works OK you need to get new feed rollers.
Your printer has a separation pad that is worn out and needs to be replaced. This pad prevents the printer from feeding multiple pages. It is located in the inside front of the paper tray Assembly.
you can replace the paper in the main tray with the envelopes. this is the only way unless you have a secondary paper tray or manual paper feed that does not override the main paper feed
