SOURCE: How do i hook up my new behringer pmp 5000 mixer

Passive loudspeakers are connected to the two "Speakon" connectors on the back of the unit. BUY GOOD cables for your speakers!!!! Whatever you do don't have a speaker line come loose while driving audio out !!! You will arc- out the rear-most power amp... I know, I repaired two of these now with the problem.

Connect the recording device to either the "tape OUT" RCA jacks or either of the pairs of MAIN out TRS jacks.

Set the slide switch for the MAIN L/MAIN R (upper position) leave this in this position unless you understand what the other positions are for to avoid damage. You will NOT need the other positions.

Further: Power ALL interconnect devices from the SAME receptacle source to avoid ground loops and possible damage.

YOUR passive speakers should be rated at least 300 Watts RMS continuos power handling or 600 Watts peaks.

Drive consumer stereo speakers with this and you will smoke the speakers and MAYBE blow the amp. This is a powerful amplifier and if you don't have at least 15 inch speakers you MUST really hold down the volume lest you blow the speakers.

Above all read the manual... yes, it is a bit hard to understand...

If you have a problem you can contact me by email for a bit of help. I have wo of these I have been using at venues now.

Testimonial: "Thank you fredy2. im very grateful. Wish i had know about this site before i purchased some of my gear. I will follow these recommendations. THANKS,"

SOURCE: My Behringer Europower Pmp5000 Powered Mixer blew

Probably the channel A went. If you are fortunate, the power supply is still OK. There are protection circuits for the speakers, however you MUST use speakers that are rated at over 400 Watts. If you use smaller ones, they can get blown. There is a weakness primarily on insulation for channel A and an arc between layers of a circuit board can wipe out several transistors and a zener diode and sometimes a metering resistor. Once this happens, have unit serviced before using it again as further damage can result.
ALSO PLEASE read my tip I posted on FIXYA regarding a grounding hazard when using Speakon to 1/4 inch speaker cables... essentially the barrel of the 1/4 inch jack of the A channel is the hot lead, NOT the tip for that channel.

SOURCE: Will a Behringer UB2442fx-PRO run

ALL the speakers will either have to be POWERED or have external amplifiers. The mixer has NO power amps capable of driving speakers. When connecting, make sure that the mixer is powered by the same receptacle as the speakers or amps. Used balanced line for interconnection.

SOURCE: behringer pmp2000. I have Yamaha passive monitor

The outputs are usually just for the front of house speakers - the monitors usually need their own amps.

Check the manual.

You have 1200 watss of power - so keep the volumes REALLY LOW to try things out - otherwise your speakers could be blown by the amp.

Behringer Europower PMP500 using 1/4 inch cables for speakers?

Question edited for maker.
Question moved from Musical Instruments to correct category.

Running a 1/4" cable has no bearing unless you are trying to run a hundred yards of cable. Check your plugs wiring and connections to the unit. Here is the manual.

How to wire up outboard effects, poweramps to mixer. Out to sub, mains, monitors each with own poweramp, and several outboard effects, eq's, comp/lim/gate, sonic maximizer, quadraverb, crossover.

I'd need to know what mixer you have, to know if there is a [line out] connection socket and an [internal amp in] connection socket.

"each with own poweramp" I presume means the ep1500's and NOT that the speakers are active (ie containing amps)

***If any of your speakers are active, ask the question again, with more detail.***

So if all your speakers are passive, I offer the following.

I assume there is [effect send] and [effect return] on the mixer

effect send>quadraverb>effect return

mixer line out > eq > compressor > sonic maximizer > crossover

sub output of crossover> amp > sub
high output of crossover to mixer's internal amp input
mixer's speaker output > main speakers

monitor output > other side of eq (>other side of compressor if desired, but use sparingly ) > other side of sonic max if it is true stereo , otherwise skip > amp > monitors

If your mixer doesn't have an input to its internal amp, we are "back to the drawing board"
With questions like this it pays to give as much detail as possible; model and make of each component etc
I have done my best with the the info you have provided.
Don't feed amp outputs into powered speakers

HOW DO I HOOK UP PASSIVE MONITORS TO BEHRINGER PMP4000

If you are using the amp in stereo mode, then you will require a separate amp for the monitors and the input of that amp are taken using BALANCED TRS cables from the monitor jacks. If you are using the amp as MONO and monitor, then connect NO MORE than two 8 ohm speakers to the Speakon plug on the back labeled for use as monitor. Refer to your user manual... they have detailed photos of the connections. If you lost your manual, you can download another from the Behringer site. There are settings you need to do to configure the unit after connecting your speakers. The small slide switch has to be set to the center position for Main/Mon. Make sure it is centered as many people have had it slightlyu off and the system will NOT pass audio. You need to set each channel "monitor 1" level control to send the monitor signal to the MONITOR mixing bus. You will then use the MONITOR 1 slider to control the amount sent to the monitor. Be VERY careful of grounding the sleeve of 1/4 inch jacks that originate at the Speakon power amp outputs as the SLEEVE of channel A is the HOT side and you can blow the power amp for the channel... it is EXPENSIVE to repair.

We have a pmp6000 mixer hooked up to our ep 4000 and b1800 and b2520,it seems we can only hook up the amp to the mixer into either mono's 1 and 2 or the main 2 however not in main 1 with full...

MAKE SURE the cables you plug into 1/4 inch mains are TRS plugs, and not mono cables (TS). The main output 1/4 inch jacks are TRS balanced outputs and if you plug mono (TS) cables that shorts out the ring connector reducing the power by 6 Db. USE ONLY TRS balanced cables for interconnects !!!! Also read my tip on Fixya regarding PMP mixers. If you use 1/4 inch SPEAKER cables or adapters, if you short the SLEEVE of channel A output to ground you can pop the channel A amp. The TIP of channel B is the hot BUT the SLEEVE of channel A is the HOT. The ttip I posted explains why this is and it isn't mention in the Behringer documentation.

Behringer europower pmp1000, mixer unit, has all leds lit ,is responding to mic. input, bur is not producing any ourput to speakers, can you advise please.

ALL LED's should NOT be lit all the time. If thsy are, there is a failure in the power supply.

plug headphones into the 1/4 inch main output jacks on the top... you will only hear sound in the left side headphone for each. This would verify the preamp is working.

I have a 1680S. How do I hook up my in-ear monitor? I plan to run two house speakers but no floor monitors. Thanks,

DO NOT connect your in-ear monitors to the power amp out using the MAIN/Mon speaker option as it would be goodbye hearing and fried ear buds..
Get a very small and in-expensive headphone amp and connect its input to the 1/4 inch Monitor output jack.

I have four active and two passive speakers how do i hook up to amp

Assuming they are ALL mains and not for monitors connect this way:

Connect the passive to the A and B powered outputs. Please read my tip on Fixya regarding hazard of grounding speaker leads on channel A of PMP mixers.

Connect each pair of active speakers to the Main L and R 1/4 inch jacks using TRS balanced cables. Power these speakers from the SAME receptacle or source, even if it means running an extension cord to your mixer from where the actives are plugged in. FAILURE to do this creates a hazard of ground loops and ground bounce that can damage equipment. The Main L and R 1/4 inch jackls can drive more than one active speaker... these are line level signals. Make sure to use TRS balanced cables for this.

We are having problems with a Behringer PMP5000 board. We have the switch setting on Mon1/Mono. We can get sound out of the monitor output, but the mono output is almost silent. Do you have suggestions...

It is NOT clear what configuration you have set up and what you consider the MONO output is, whether it is the power amp MONO side output or the line level MONO 1/4 inch jack on the top of the unit (this jack is NOT speaker output). If you can run normal stereo speakers using both sides of the power amp in the AB mode, the problems you are having is pilot error.

REMEMBER the main out 1/4 inch jacks are BALANCED TRS jacks... DO NOT put mono plugs into these.

A WARNING: If you use Speakon to 1/4 inch speaker cables, remember that the BARREL of side A is HOT, not the tip!!! You can fry the amp if you inadvertently ground that barrel someplace. (Side B has the barrel grounded) This information is NOT readily available in the manual and results in many a blown amp. They do this to implement the "Bridged" mode easily.

I have schematics and can unravel most any problem you are having.
