When I turn on my wheelwriter 1000 it beeps 5 times then the #1 and #2 line space lights blink. The keys are frozen as if the typewriter is on off mode. I powered the machine down and unplugged it and changed the batteries but nothing works. Any suggestions?

First be sure the printwheel is installed properly, and look for debris in that area. Put some light oil on the silver shaft that the carrier slides on (WD40 is good).

If it beeps three times then the line space lights blink
1 the batterys are installed incorectly
2 no batterys are installed
3 the batterys are weak or dead
