Dryers need airflow to work properly.
Unplug the unit and pull away from wall. Use flashlight, gloves, etc. as neccessary to inspect ducting for dryer lint. Remove any and all lint. Use a shop vac to clean vents and area. You might also need to use the shop vac to vaccuum out or blow out ducting.
Another typical solution is to replace the two thermostat controllers.
Parts available from Sears parts online for around $20 each.
Unplug Dryer and remove back panel from unit (8-10 screws.) A Simple pair of pliers will do the trick. Use shop vac to remove any and all dryer lint from inside unit. Thermostats look to be central right and easily accessible.
I am not a professional by any means, but I was a mechanical engineer on a nuclear submarine's reactor plant and I did work for 6 months installing and light repair on Maytag appliances.
I have seen several websites with info that supports the problem being the thermostats. My guess is that I would treat this like replacing headlights for your car. Never replace just one, because the older one will not be as bright and will most likely fail in the near future. For the low cost and high effort to go back and replace a second thermostat...you might as well replace both at the same time.
