Lost maps in garmin nuvi 2w

It is possible the battery is totally depleted. If it powers on when it is plugged in (either on the computer or with the car charger) then let it charge for abut 6 hours before trying to turn the device on.

Graham - what your describing sounds like you somehow managed to erase the street level maps and POIs in your Nuvi.

If you connect the GPS to the computer with your USB cable, you should at the contents of the Nuvi directories and find a file called GMAPPROM.IMG or GMAPSUPP.IMG. These are the street level map files. Generally, these are found in the root directory of the Nuvi - or if yours has / and you use a memory card slot for maps - find it in the /GARMIN directory. GMAPPROM.IMG is the name of the first map set and GMAPSUPP.IMG is the name of the supplementary or second map set (if you purchased & installed one). You will likely have only one of these files - and may be named either. The size of this file depends on the area and age of the map. Current maps of the entire US run over 1 GB in size. If you do not have any maps named GMAPPROM or GMAPSUPP, you will not see any street level maps.

Something happened to delete the maps. Garmin will probably NOT provide free replacement maps for you, unless under warranty. If the devices is trashing maps and other files, you probably want to replace the unit under warranty or not. Garmin will, upon return of your old Nuvi - replace it with a factory refurbished unit with the latest maps installed, for $79. The only time you get to update your maps for free from the garmin website is if it's a new satnav and a new map becomes available within 60 days of it first connecting to a satellite. Details on how to update your map are available at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps. If you see free maps available elsewhere be suspicious of them as they are likely to damage your satnav.

I don't have a Nuvi 1300, only a 200 and a 215. You may want to try loading only the Continental US map. Not the whole Northern Hemisphere. It maybe that your Nuvi 1300 doesn't have enough memory to contain the entire map.
I did the same thing with my Nuvi 200 when I first got it. Was ready to drop it onto the pavement from my third floor balcony!!! Went out and bought a second Nuvi that same day, and did the same thing to it too. I was livid all weekend long.
By Monday morning I finally got with someone there at Garmin who walked me thru the process and explained that the Nuvi can't hold that much info at once. Only part of the maps.

If the unit will connect to your computer you can try copying all files from one GPS to the other. Just be sure not to copy over the *.UNL file. That contains the unlock information for that specific device. This may get the unit running. If you get the error can not unlock maps after doing this try updating the map again. Sorry, no free maps. I know I've tried. You either live with the old map or but the latest version.
I bought the life time maps updates and I'm glad I did.
I've updated my maps at least 6 times.
New maps are about $70.
Life time maps are about $99 (when I bought mine)
BUT FIRST make SURE you have the latest software in YOUR computer and in YOUR Garmin before you load any maps.

After installing WebUpdater once from the Garmin website, perform all future software updates from your computer. Simply connect your compatible Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from your computer's "Start Menu" by selecting "Start", "Programs", "Garmin", and finally "WebUpdater"
REMEMBER: It takes hours to do a complete a map update.
Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current maps.

Click on the wrench symbol, then the map icon and then "map info". Make sure your map is checked. If it's not, then your map is off. When its off you wont find anything.

Garmin nuvi 350 Factory Reset

Hello, Here was my problem. I was traveling at 60mph yesterday and my Nuvi 360 dislodged and fell down with a huge impact inside my car. I came home and tried to look for any damage. Unfortunately Nuvi had stopped to continue beyond loading maps screen. I tried rebooting , but the problem persisted. It would take me to reboot screen, but after screen calibration, when it came to loading map screen, again went blank. I tried this and just simple starting by pushing power button several times but to no avail. I called technical support, eho advised me to to just simply connect it to my labtop and leave it that way for 3 to4 hours. Bingo!, in the next 30 mins, I accidentally switched my laptop top off, but Nuvi had started to work all fine.
