I should hope the reason is a loose or slipping belt.
Because the belts are never where you can see them, you will not know their condition until they break, or in a few cases, they squeal.
The belt is by far the most common cause of squealing.
God bless your efforts.

SOURCE: loud squeal during wash and spin cycles, maytag atlantis washer

Squealing normal occurs due to belt slippage. I would check your belts (look for cracks. Check the belt tension as well, most washers have an adjustment, normally on the motor that allows you to increase the tension of the belt.

If part of a belt gets torn and it is long enough, it will hit any part of the washing machine within range and make a clicking noise at every revolution of the motor.

I am pretty sure you need new belts. You should be able to remove a few screws and open the back cover. Between the pulleys there is a tensioner...loosen that so you can remove the belt easily. replace it with a new belt and adjust the tension.

hope this helps

My Maytag top load washer makes a squealing noise during sensing only. There is no noise during washing or during spinning. It is about 3 years old.

A squealing noise during the sensing cycle of your Maytag top-load washer can be caused by a number of factors. Here are some common reasons and steps you can take to resolve the issue:
  1. Loose belt - The noise could be caused by a loose or worn belt that needs to be tightened or replaced. You may need to remove the front panel of the washer to access the belt.
  2. Idler pulley - If the idler pulley that keeps tension on the belt is worn or damaged, it can cause a squealing noise. Replace the idler pulley if necessary.
  3. Bearing - A worn bearing in the tub can cause a squealing noise. Replacing the bearing will typically require disassembling the washer.
  4. Drive motor - If the drive motor is worn or damaged, it can cause a squealing noise. Replace the drive motor if necessary.
If you're not comfortable diagnosing and repairing the issue yourself, it's best to contact a qualified appliance repair technician for assistance.

FLC271W2 washer squeal during wash cycle

LOUD NOISES IN washing MACHINE;

LOT OF THINGS TO CHECK, THE BELT LOOSE OR WORN, THE CLUTCH, THE TRANNY, THE BEARINGS BOTH TUB SEAL AND BEARING, THE REAR DRUM BEARING,
THE DRIVE PULLEY- If the washer is making a loud noise the drive pulley might be worn out, cracked, loose or bent. Remove the drive pulley and inspect it carefully. If it is damaged or defective replace it.
THE TRANSMISSION, THE MOTOR COUPLER, THE MOTOR DRIVE BEARINGS,
THE DRIVE MOTOR- If the washer is making a loud noise the drive motor bearings may have worn out. Washer motors are normally almost silent when they run. If the motor is run without a belt hooked up to it and it's loud it will have to be replaced.

If the washer is making a loud noise the drain pump might be going bad or might have something caught in it. Remove the drain pump from the washer and inspect it carefully. Look for anything that might be caught in it, a piece of wire, plastic, etc. If nothing is wrong with the pump, but it's still noisy it will have to be replaced.

My washer has started making a high-pitched noise while spinning.

Hi
to chek what is wrong follow the bellow instruction....
Check the motor bearings
If your washing machine is making a high-pitched whine or squealing noise while running, the main culprit is usually worn motor bearings. To check the motor bearings, remove the belt and run the motor by itself, listening for the noise. If it makes the noise, than the problem is most likely the result of worn motor bearings and has nothing to do with issues in the rest of the washer.
Check for Obstructions
Sometimes coins, bra underwires and other metal objects come loose in the wash and become stuck between the tub and the drum. Using a flashlight, take a good look inside the washing machine. If you see dents, scratches or dings, that's a sign that there either are or have been items bouncing around in there that can make a horrible racket.
Check for Grease Spatter
A high-pitched squealing can be caused when the grease thins around the bearing that's located under the tub. Open up the washing machine and check the interior for grease spatters or spots. That could mean that the grease has thinned out around the bearing and it's making the noise because of rubbing.
Check the Drum for Irregularities
Spin the drum by hand, listening for the noise. If it makes the noise in the same spot with each rotation, the problem could be with the washing machine drum itself. Parts of the drum can corrode over time, leaving it vulnerable to cracks or rust.
