You still have a short to ground on your power board
replace the fuse with a resettable circuit breaker and start looking with your oscilloscope or, multimeter for a high amp drain that was blowing your fuses

Don't use a resetable breaker or you will damage the power supply more than it already is...take a 60 watt light bulb and wire it across the fuse, that way you won't damage anything else on the board when trouble shooting it. Almost all power boards are the same on the hot side where your issue is at...1st thing to test is the N channel MOSFET transistor, generally this transistor is on the heatsink close to the large cap on the board...and see if its shorted from gate to drain..if its bad replace that first, next thing to check is the driver transistor for the gate of the MOSFET, if its bad and I think it will be replace it, now look at the larger low resistance resistor across the drain of the MOSFET, it may be open, then double check all the other parts you installed in the kit, pay close attention to the zener diodes to be sure you didn't put one in backwards..power the board back up with the light bulb and if you have it fixed the light will come on for a second then go off, if it lights bright you still have issues but this way you can work on the board without damaging it...Good luck...another fix would be to order a new power board.

SOURCE: System won't power up

Hi,

Based on your description, we can limit the fault to the power supply board and in particular to possibly 3~4 components:

  • bridge diode;
  • filter capacitor (mains);
  • regulator;
  • filter capacitor (secondary).
blown fuse indicate a short in any of these.

As Jaime867 has suggested, in the absence of a readily available replacement board, component level might be the best alternative at the moment. Having posted the most likely culprits further narrows down your troubleshooting. Could you pls post back the part number of the smaller IC either 4 or 8 pins?

Alternately, pls check for the presence of a VDR, it would look like a coin (often green in color or something else) with 2 pins. They have been known to short out also and cause fuse to blow. One possible indicator is chipped or flaked of one side or a hairline crack on top. If it is chip, there would be a silvery color on the inside.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Then you have a shorted regulator circuit. the best bet is to replace the power supply board itself. The part number is 313815864961. Please take a few moments to rate my answer, Thank you.

SOURCE: Initially the tv would make an arcing sound and

That chassis is famous for the CL031 box capacitor burning through the board often if the hole is large enough the entire deflection board may need to be replaced as alot or arching can cause a surge to run through the deflection circuits, So replaceing the deflection board as a unit may be the best bet.

More than likely had original short that blew the original boards. You replaced the boards, but still have the short that blew them out. Think about having a professional look at it.

did you check and replace the two pico fuses on the G board and also the six pico fuses on the D board? If so double check the solder often a pins mounting ring will lift up during the removal and prevent solder connection when doing the install.

Repair tips for plasma Y sustain board

Ah! if the short shows at the large input filter caps---put the bridge rectifier under a microscope (not literally).

That is in a package which actually contains 4 diodes--even if tests good and is mounted to a heat sink, unbolt it as I have seen a few (line voltage surge) fracture them on the rear--reads ok when set off but when power hits it at turn on it arcs over to the heat sink.

Just a thought--just keep looking if a short to ground--takes time but not usually a major part bad.

We had a storm last night and the storm blew the power out and now the tv won't work I have tried everything we even went to get a new fuse and that won't work. What seems to be the problem? we...

Did the fuse blow? And when you put in the new fuse, did it blow right away.
For five year old TV, the common failure will be the power supply module and the processor on the main board since it will be running 24/7 even when the TV is off, this make it subject to all kind of surges and spikes (I kill the power my TV's when not in use using my power conditioner power switch).
The main board can be damaged also.
Repair shop will more likely to charge you $50 to give you the estimate, typical repair will be $150 and up plus parts.

I don't have any power to the t.v. even though it's pluged in to the outlet. It's a emerson model EWL20S5B?

Small TVs like this almost always are made up of two boards inside - a power board and a main TV board.

And almost always there's a fuse on the power board, near where the power cord goes in.

Checking that fuse is the only thing you can do by yourself.

Your next option is to give the TV in for repair to someone who fixes such things. Chances are high the problem is in the power supply board and is repairable.

However, the cost for doing so can be prohibitedly high as cost of the TV itself is prohibitedly low. I mean you may be better off selling it on eBay for $50 and buying a new one.

I know I'd buy it for $50 there.

I think you probably mean the Y-Sustain board which does have fuse which can blow. This board is on the left hand side (as you look from the rear of the TV). Occassionally other factors can be responsible for this fuse to blow such as the buffer PCB which works in conjunction with the Sustain board. An established repair service centre or a supplier on-line will porvide a replacement for you.
