Hi nick, there can be many causes for this fault.
1. your speakers or speaker cables are faulty, then this problem will come up.
2. your installation is done incorrectly, or with the wrong gauge of power cables can cause this problem.
3. your vehicle battery could be weak.
4. you could have an internal problem with the amp only, which needs repairs.
cheers.

SOURCE: sony xplod amp(XM-1652Z ) power/protect light

if your amp is overheating your sub is needing to much power that the amp doesnt have.
if its cutting out and the red light comes on you need to check the wiring. nothing not even the tinyest speaker wires can be touching.
proper wiring would be your best bet.
but i would upgrade amps.
cheap bang isnt reliable.

What kind of subs are you running? Meaning what brand, what are the ohm, spl and wattage? I'll look up your amp while you get that info to me. Looking forward to helping you:) Thanks!

My sony xplod 1200 whatt amps red light keeps coming on all the wires are good when it gos to hit it gos red

check your ohm load on the sub and see if your amp can do the same, That is why every time it shuts off into protection mode. Check your gain level on the amp to this is not a volume knob for your amp, It is to get both the amp and cd player on the same page. Hope this was helpfull

Sony xm gtx1852 amp new and worked for 1 day now is in protect mode even with nothing hooked up but the remote and power and ground.

meter the power side of the amp. sometimes the amp will go into protect if it doesnt have power. if power and remote and ground are good the amp is probably bad.

Protection Light Comes on

Sounds like you have an ohm problem, Tryy hooking the positive from one speaker to the negative on the other speaker. Then hook the negative from the first speaker to the negative on your amp and the positive from the second to the positive on the amp this will drop your ohm load and the amp should stop going into protection.

Hi i have a 600 watt sony xplod amp model xm-554zr and it recently stopped working. when i turn my car on the amp turns on but only for a sec then the protection light comes on, on the amp and it wont...

sounds like maybe a speaker short, try unhooking your speakers and then powering up your amp, if it then powers up with the speakers unhooked try hooking up each speaker one by one untill the amp goes back into protection and then you have your bad speaker.
