Hello, The most common cause of the 'sud' alarm is too much detergent, or the detergent that is being used is creating too much suds. It works and alarms off of the motor current draw. The causes and cures listed below are pretty much in order of their commonality; try the first item before the second one, etc. If you can pin the fault on the detergent, try using the least amount of detergent that you can while still getting your clothes clean. With a HE washer, more isn't always better. Read on:

The motor control unit senses a suds lock condition by analyzing the current draw on the drive motor. If “Sud” is displayed a potential suds lock is detected. This may signify a bad pump, an extra heavy load, excessive detergent, or excessive suds.

Potential Causes

• If too much detergent was used, run the unit through a Rinse/ Spin cycle then a Normal cycle without adding any detergent. This should clear the unit of the excess detergent.
• Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked
• Check / Clean Drain Pump Filter of foreign objects
• Check Drain Pump
• Check Wire Harness connections to the Drain Pump, Pressure Switch, and Central Control Unit (CCU)
• Check the Pressure Switch
• Check CCU

Replace failed component.

Hope that this helps. Try the empty loads first to clear the detergent. This is the easiest fix.
Best regards, --W/D--

Tub leaks, with a partially filled tub (2.5 inches measured from the lowest point over the pump assembly.) Promblem occured after the washer was idle for 3 weeks. Have just replaced the main water inlet...

I am assuming leaking when it is running, not sitting idle. Leaking from the door? Fill and run unit for 1 minute with no detergent. Open door. Are suds present? Suds turn into water when they drop to the floor. Suds can flow over the lip of the tub and drip to the floor. Oversudsing, Sometimes old detergent breakdown. Rinse aid dispenser leaking will cause oversudsing. Combination of all in one products will cause many problems. If suds are present after running unit a minute, pour a cup of cooking oil in unit. Run and fill it a few times until suds are gone. Possible most common cause is dispenser latch grommet.

I have a GHW9100LQ front loading Whirlpool Duet washer that is 7 years old. It has recently been displaying error code F02. Today water leaked onto my floor. I read the suggestions on cleaning the drain...

"F02" is a Long Drain error. If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes this error code will be displayed. In addition, a "SUDS" error may also be generated as a secondary error. This is an indication of a drain pump problem and/or clog in the drain line. You will need to check the following:

1. Check the drain hose to make sure it is not kinked or clogged.
2. Check the electrical connections to the pump and ensure the pump is running.
3. Remove the drain pump filter and check for foreign objects and/or debris.

To check the drain pump, click on the following link for step-by-step instructions.

If the above procedures do not correct the problem, it is recommended by the manufacturer to replace the drain pump

4 mo. old. leaking water and suds all over floor. using he detergent.

If its leaking by that amount there will almost certainly be a pipe that has pulled loose somewhere at the soap box due to the soap suds leaking over the floor. To see the workings, remove the top lid and start a cycle and observe. Go from there.

F02 fault on a hot point washer says motor jammed

Hi,

I suspected suds build up, so I tried both regular wash cycles (e.g. Normal) and Rinse and Drain cycles multiple times to clear suds in the system, but still received the F02 error. Sometimes the SUD error message came up, but not consistently.

I ran the built-in Diagnostics tests. It made it to C:06 then got stuck.

In both scenarios above, the washing machine continued to try to pump water out, despite the fact that all the water had already been drained. After 8 or so minutes, the F02 error came on. As I understand it, if the pressure switch detects either water or suds, it commands the drain pump to continue. After 8 or so minutes, if it's still detecting water or suds, the F02 error is displayed.

I performed the following with no success:
1. Check Wire Harness connections - OK
2. Check Drain pump. – OK, as water drains at a rapid rate
3. Check Drain pump motor - OK, as water drains at a rapid rate
4. Check that the Drain hose and Drain Pump Filter is clear of
foreign objects. – OK, ran a cable through both hose assemblies (exterior and interior) and not blocked.
5. Check the CCU – appears to function normally.
6. There were no kinks in the hoses, nor was the height of the pump beyond what the manual recommends.

After more diagnostics and troubleshooting, I found that the Pressure Switch was stuck and reported the SUDS state (continuity made between contacts 11 and 14 on the Pressure Switch itself). I ran many Rinse and Normal cycles with no detergent and still got this F02 error. I checked the state of the Pressure Switch’s Empty and Level 1 contacts which intermittently reported the correct water level condition (EMPTY and Level 1). In all cases contacts 11 and 14 (SUDS) were continuously made (connected) irrespective of water level, rinse conditions and the use of no detergent.

I removed the pressure switch and tested it by blowing into the inlet and did hear the switch click, so it seemed to work properly. Given the diagnostics above, I concluded that the pressure switch hose must have been clogged.

Good Luck!!

Thanks

Whirlpool Duet Washer-error code "sud"

Just take off the bottom kickplate (3 screws on the bottom). You'll see the pump front and center. Twist the front face of the pum slowly to the left. All the trapped water will flow right out towards you. There could be a sock or some other debris there. Unclog, screw that faceplate back in and start it up.
