SOURCE: Brand new Whirlpool Duet Sport gas dryer & burning plastic smell

I would consult the place of purchase. If they do not stand behind the product, then get the manufacturers support #. They will stand behind their product, especially if it is a possible fire hazard. THe smell you are smelling could be anything, but without being there and taking off the cover and doing a visual check. it's hard to dianose. It is possible that something that is plastic has fallen out of a pocket and gotten inside the unit while it was drying clothes and fallen onto the igniter housing.

Whirlpool duet washer eating my clothes

We had this problem, and resolved it. It can occur in the washer or dryer. The reason was along the outside edge of the BACK of the drum, there were tiny metal "spikes" that you can feel if you lightly run your finger tips over the whole area. They are likely caused by leaving a loose metal object in the washer or dryer and it banging around. Replacement drums are hard to find anymore, and cost over $600. The cheap and permanent fix is to use a product called Water Weld epoxy by JB Weld, found at most hardware stores, to cover over the spikes. Use sandpaper to first rough up the area a bit so it will stick better, per the instructions. You can see this on the photos. Then mix a small amount following the directions on the inside of the label, and spread it thinly over any area with spikes. It's OK if the surface of the epoxy is rough after drying, it won't damage your clothes, even delicates. We did this over six months ago, and it works great - no more torn clothes! It withstands hot water and dryer heat. Good luck!

Why doesn't my dryer dry clothes?

You can find the Installation Instructions and your owner's manual here: http://www.kmart.com/whirlpool-duet-174-7.4-cu-ft-he-gas-dryer/p-02692332000P The links are about halfway down the page and are in red. There are instructions for cleaning the lint screen, which if clogged, will effect the drying time. Hope this helps.

My clothes are leaving the dryer with streaks (maybe 4 or 5 inches long) that appear to be burn marks. Closer inspection of the inside of the drum shows that the back "wall" of the drum is off-center...

I have the same problem and read somewhere to replace the felt belts. We have done this twice and still getting the brown marks. I have found using Goo Gone and/or Dawn dish soap and scrubbing with a brush will take most of the mark out, re-wash and HANG to dry. I'm still looking for a permanent solution to this problem, as much as these dryer cost and you can't dry white clothes???

I have a 2006 Whirlpool Duet Electric Dryer that leaves brown marks on my cloths. I have cleaned the inside of the dryer per the manual's diretions, but it still leaves the marks. They almost look like...

Usually, if you are getting brown streaks or marks on clothing, one or both of the drum seals are going bad. Clothing will drag between the bulkhead and the drum, leaving brown marks. If you want to do the repair yourself, I can provide instructions, otherwise call for service.

Whirlpool Duet dryer - "burn marks", "out of round" drum

It's not really BURN marks - it is the adhesive used to affix the felt. You can substitute for silicone to remedy this problem.

Whirlpool duet dryer felt seal replacement

The drum may to be removed to install the new felt gasket but the old drum can then be reinstalled. The felt gasket seals the joint where the drum rotates at the inside back panel. It is likely that the inside back panel can be removed when the dryer is placed front-down and the outside back panel is removed. In that case the drum does not have to come out.
