542 an error in temprator .may be termistor dirty or defective.termostat or lamp check all.then reset by :c(yellow)-107-c(red.press 3 second)-then turn off and on
In a laser printer the 'Imager' is probably the same thing as the 'Image transfer drum' - this cylindrical unit has the Image of the page to be printed electrostatically set by the laser - this electrostatic image is then transferred onto the sheet of paper and electrically charged toner sticks to the page to form the image - the fuser then heats the paper and toner to fix the image and stop it smudging - The Image Transfer Drum will only be able to carry out this function a certain number of times and will need to be periodically replaced - in a business setting this could be within 1 - 2 years, in a home user setting it could last much longer - It depends on the volume of pages printed during the printer's working life
SC542 is a fuser related error code, this will need to be reset.
Probable causes are:
• Defective thermistor
• Incorrect power supply input at the main power socket
• Defective fusing lamp
Corrective actions :
1. Check the voltage of the wall outlet.
2. Replace the fusing unit
3. Replace the fusing lamp.
Resetting the code:
Execute "Fuser SC Reset" with Some (printer models) or "Engine Maintenance Menu" (MF model) to recover the machine after completing the recovery procedure. Otherwise, the machine continues to issue this SC code and cannot be operated.
SC542, SC543, SC544,
SC546, These codes are related to fuser temperature. Make sure that
power source voltage are not low. check thermisters, fusing lamps etc. To reset
this code press "All clear" yellow key, enter 107 and press the red key for some
seconds. Sevice mode will be displayed, enter SP 5-810 (SC code reset) and
select "1". Then hold down the Photo mode key and the # key at the same time for
at least 3 seconds
This message indicates that the colour drum(s) (called pcus) have reached near the end of their counter life. If the output is still ok you can safely ignore the message for now. If the machine stops working, then you'll either have to replace them (expensive) or if the quality is still ok, then reset them. Take a look here.
I am assuming you really meant an Aficio 1013 - SC320 indicates a polygonal mirror motor failure. This motor drives the mirror that distributes the laser to the drum. Could be a defective motor, poor connection between the motor and the BICU - one of the motherboards, damaged cable or defective BICU.
This will require a service call. Probably looking at an hour to diagnose the exact problem and an hour or two to repair plus parts. Could be as simple as a loose connector --- doubtful, but you never know.
