You will have to remove it somehow, possibly with tweezers.

SOURCE: Shirring fabric?

When putting your shirring elastic on the bobbin, don't thread the elastic through the bobbin holder, adjust the stitch length longer, and loosen the tension, other wise if you want to put it through the bobbin holder you have to loosen the tension screw on the bobbin holder, and then you have to adjust it back for ordinary sewing,

SOURCE: My Singer 507 sewing machine keeps on jamming up,

If you have the 507 with the grey or black plastic bobbin case you may need to undo the two screws on the right hand side on the silver bit and push it over to the bobbin case so it is tight or enough gap between the bobbin case and the silver bit about a thread width.

SOURCE: My elna sewing machine bobbin

If the fly wheel is going around then the clutch isn't disengaged to wind the bobbin, you need to pull out the flywheel on your model to disengage the clutch for bobbin winding.

tally_girl_59.jpg
Take thread from thread spool across to bobbin winder thread guide, then back to bobbin and thread the tail through the hole on top of the bobbin. Place bobbin onto spindle on top of machine and then push it against the stop to engage the bobbin winding motor. HOld the thread tail up and start winding slowly until the bobbin core has been covered including the starting point. Stop and trim off the thread tail with scissors. COntinue winding bobbin and give the thread a nudge if needed to wind evening top middle and bottom of the bobbin. A good smooth wind is important. Also don't wind at full speed and keep an eye on the thread reel that the thread is coming off, you don't want it bouncing around as this will **** the thread and stretch then relax it affecting your bobbin wind.

Obviously if you know this and the bobbin winding mechanisim is just not working, then it will need a service/replacement by an Elna repair person.

My Janome 3160QDC has stopped working. The thread take up lever will no come up and I can't turn the handwheel.

has it been cleaned lately ?

did you look in the instruction booklet on steps to change thread ?

have you called a local repair facility and asked them ? trained personnel can guide you over the phone - and are quite willing to assist in case the problem 'fix' is simple in order to influence you to come to them in the future when repairs are really needed by trained repairmen.

Singer One Sewing machine purchased new about 6 months ago..

You may need the assistance of a store than works on sewing machines. Or - try Pushing really hard to re-engage the hand wheel. Good luck. PS - do not let the repair guy adjust your machine. Most men do not sew, ergo they make a mess of all adjustments.

I was sewing and my machine locked up. Its a 910 bernina

Does the hand wheel turn ? Does anything move when you turn the hand wheel ? If not, may be a mechanical seizure, usually from overheating or maladjusted gears.

It may also be a seized thread. Thread may catch in a burr in the needle, or a burr in a thread guide. Check the entire thread pathway, make sure no loose thread is caught anywhere, there are no rough spots or burrs in any guide. Clean lint out of the bobbin area, and under the feed dogs. Make sure the thread hasn't wound around the spool pin or spindle, which can cause an abrupt stop in stitching, though it usually also breaks the thread and sometimes the needle too.

Clean it thoroughly, unthread and rethread. Those are always the first steps if something goes wrong. If you can get it moving and it happens again, turn the hand wheel slowly and watch to see if the thread is popping out of any thread guide, or out of the tension adjuster.

If the hand wheel won't turn, it may well be seized gears, which may be a costly repair. You can open up the machine and look inside to see if any gears are stuck, or missing teeth.

Do you oil this machine regularly ? All machines should be oiled periodically. If you use it a lot, oil more often.

Wound thread around the hand wheel

You should be able to pull the cover of the hand wheel off. Just firmly grab the hand wheel and pull straight back.

Hello dear

have you tried changing the needle?
have you tried adjusting the top thread tension?
it might be the needle and the thread are not compatable,, the needle may be to light for the thread.
if the suggestions don't help, sew on the sewing machine till it makes the loop and then stop the machine and take it to the repair man and let him see the loop and then ask him why it's making the loop.

10. Trim thread end from top of bobbin.
11. Press the bobbin winding indent on hand wheel to its original position. If necessary, turn hand wheel to engage needle movement.

Oiling my Janome Gem Gold

Janome Gem are self lubricating. Silicon is embedded in the gears and releases as it runs. If the machine is put away and not run every so often it will lock up. The hand wheel may have thread caught up around it. The Gems aren't assembled to be dissembled except to change the light bulb.
