The light has a short delay when I flip the switch on. Works fine from the pull chain on the fan; but delays for about a brief moment when the wall switch is flipped on. I replaced the first fan that I purchased and I'm having the problem with the second one.
I also ran into this "problem". Installed five of the same fan last week and four of them have the light switched, one of them is on a 3-way switch. All the switched lights delay when turning them on while the "always on" light operated by pull string is just fine.
Could find no explanation in the user manual other than, as previous post mentions, new federal regulations that limit the wattage. One can assume that there is some sort of regulator inside the light fixture that needs to power up and/or run some sort of check to see how much power is being pulled by the lights.
The delay is super annoying, but I suppose all light kits are going to have this now. Thank you FEDERAL GOVERNMENT!

stlouie is correct - I found out the hard way - I bought 7 fans and it had both the 'old' without and 'new' styles with the regulator mixed together. The 'old' ones had no delay (Harbor Breeze fans from Lowe's) - the light kit on these had a blue wire and a white wire and the new ones all had the 1 second delay - the new light kits had a RED wire and a white wire. I talked to their regional ceiling fan expert and he confirmed that the newer fans have a regulator - the way to tell for sure is if the delay is only when the switch is flipped; once the switch is on, the pull chain on the lights should have no delay at all.

I called Hunter several months back on the same issue. They explained that it was as stated above with government regulation but my ~~ 1 second delay sounded abnormal. They agreed to send me a new light kit, but they were back ordered and said it would be a couple months. Well, about 2 months later they sent it but was for the wrong model fan. They then said they would send another but again, they were back ordered. I am pleased to report, after another 2.5 months, they finally sent the right one. Now the bad news.....I installed it today and it did not fix the problem. I am calling tech support again but not optimistic. My advice is to stay away from Hunter. I had just previously replaced a Hamptom Bay fan that was new but noisy. Well this Hunter has the same noise issue but the light problem on top of that.
Hunter sent me a new light kit, and it had the same issue. They claim it is a built in delay that results from the government regulated switch, that now checks the wattage of the light bulbs you have in the fixture. I recently bought a Harbor Breeze fan from Lowes that does not have the problem, so Hunter engineers that designed theirs, are probably at fault. Mine has been working with this delay for over a year now so it must be okay but annoying.

Technically, from your discription, the only thing wrong with something would be your wall switch. but if its in good condition, like not loose, dont worry about it. if this unit has a remote control feature, this could be normal, as the power would go through the circuit before turning on the light
I think it's normal. I just installed 3 ceiling fans today; 1 with single gang switch, the other with double, so 2 different ways... and all 3 have a delay when you flip the light switch. I think it has to do with the new ceiing fans which have limits for wattage. My fan came with packaging stating the Federal regulations require no more than 190W between all lights for a new fan, as of Jan 1, 2009. So it has a regulator.
Not sure if this might help with your problem. its goes into some detail
Harbor Breeze Fans Installation Instructions Replacing
I have the same problem with 5 new harbor breeze fans and light kit with the one second delay that I purchase from Lowes. The employee at Lowes said they were aware of the issue, but did not have a solution. It is really annoying! I also talked to several electricians, but they weren't aware of the issue.
There is a potential safety hazard with this current limiting device.
Customers want to use the new CFL's available with the candelabra base which causes the CRFL's to flicker.
If power is one when the customer removes and installs a different CFL, some of them pop inside and go out. If one explodes and causes injury or blindness, this current limiting device may have to be redesigned as this is a very normal action by the customer trying to make his lights work.
