Hi there sorry for the late post i am actually new to here so thats why this is such a late response i too have this same problem this specific unit has 3 air filters in it all located on the projection unit which needs to be removed to remove the projection unit you first mus take the back panel off then remove the ballast cba next you ned to remove the tv/tuner unit and finally the projection unit can be removed its over on the right you will notice it very easily there is a rather large fan connected to it and once youve got that out carefully clean the 3 filters on the unit replace and you should be good to go this is coming directly from a service manual if any one needs the manual go ahead and pm me and i will get you the manual

VERY BAD IDEA ! Call a REAL Technician if you care about your TV.

  • Anonymous Nov 30, 2011

Bad idea? Not even I was able to do this myself with the manual in about an hour and a half tops and have not had a single problem since. This is a website to help people hence the reason I provided some information about the topic, but you have some people like esnapp40 here who have nothing contribute other than complain and think they know more than people who have actually done this. This is supposed to be a helpful community so if you are not going to help or don't have any questions about it why are you even posting and being so negative? The price a technician will charge to solve this simple problem will cost you more than what the tv is worth it's a SIMPLE fix just looks complicated.

Reset air filter

Page 58 of the user manual says that after cleaning the filter when the power is turned on, you will be given the opportunity to reply "Yes" to the question "Did you clean the filter". I suggest you go through the motions of cleaning the filter again, removing the necessary parts. Then replace the parts, turn the power on, and watch carefully for the message "Did you clean the filter".

Says to clean the air filter

The air filter on this set is on the bottom of the light engine which means you have to remove the light engine form the set to access the filter, i have the guide right from panasonic service manual, no picture as the manual does not have one but here is the info:
######################################################
THE FILTER ON THE PROJECTION UNIT
CAUTION:
Operating with torn or damaged Air Filter may cause damage
to the Projection unit.
Remove the Projection Unit from rear.
The filters are located on the bottom and in new engine
designed the front of the engine.
clean the filters onthe Projection Unit. Gently remove any
accumulated dust from
filter with a vacuum cleaner; use extreme care so as not to
damage or tear the filters.
############################################################

The engine is a little tricky to get out you really need to be sure each connector removed is inserted and no cable has stress on it when it is being removed, there are no photos of the process just a tech jargon from the service manual.

Hope this helps,

An OSD advising "AIR FILTER CLEANING" is displayed

You must remove the light engine then locate the filter by removing a black cowel looking device at top of engine held by 4 screws, then you will see the rectagular filter held with 4 screws you must pry out the filter it does not come out easy. Clean it with clear water and blow out with compressed air look at it through light to make sure it is clean. reassemble The sevice manual will show you how to remove the light engine.

I have a panasonic PT-50LC14. the clean air filter display keeps coming on. I removed the housing for the lamp and cleaned all that area then i removed the back of the tv and cleaned the vents. i watched...

When you take the back off the tv there is a metal brace in the center of the set with pc boards on it , remove the screws and this will swing to the left like a door, take care because some of the wires will have to be unplugged to get it out of the way, then you can see a black plastic box on top of the light engine , remove the cover and you will see the filter remove it and clean it, then replace everyting in reverse order. Hope this helps.

Unit says filter needs cleaning and gives one minute to shut down

The light engine will have to be removed and there are to foam filters on the light engine. brush them off. do not blow air on them or use a vacuum. wipe off only. re install light engine.

I want to why should air filter clean, what's the benefit of clean air filter and about how many Km should i do this process?

air filter keeps large debris out of engine that could cause failere, and you like to keep it clean as possible to make it easier for the engine to breath .I replaced mine with a K/N lifetime, and just hose it off every other season, but i do alot of city riding so mine does not get as dirty as say a dirt bike filter.

My panasonic pt-44lcx65

The fix for the air filter problem also you are probably getting the on screen message clogged filter also. It can be repaired by relacing the light engine (VERY EXPENSIVE) or remove the light engine and clean the filter much less cost infact none if you know how.
To clean the filter you must remove light engine and you will see at the top a black housing with two screws that must be removed to remove light engine.
A service maual on how to remove light engine is very helpful wich can be ordered on the internet. Any way you want to remove 4 screws from the housing you will then see the filter and 4 more screws to remove in all four corners, remove the screws and then pry the rectangular filter out of the assembly. This may take some effert so be careful. Look at filter through light it will probably be dirty wash with water and blow it out with comprssed air look at it through to insure it is clean then reinstall .Reassemble and you should be good to go.

Light engine

Hi there,
here is a forum that discuss the same problem you have.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/archive/index.php/t-353230.html

Essentially, on the right side of the bulb compartment is the filter compartment. Open it from the front and you will see the filter. There is only one screw to undo.

Good luck
