If you hit a brick with it you most like bent the crank shaft or maybe a rod. if it only tuns a lilltle bit then one of those componets are stopping it. take the blade off take the rip cord cover off hold a straight edge againts cranksaft have some one hand turn the fly wheel with cover off. if crank is bent the straight edge will show you. The shear pin should have gave way but if it didnt this will happen. Also pull plug out see if piston is moving during this process.

Usually the crankshaft is connected to the magneto with a shear pin, made of aluminum so the pin will shear rather than have the momentum of the magneto twist the crankshaft. But the fact that it locks up suggests something is out of alignment, at least. You might remove the sparkplug, rotate the engine with maybe a wire or other shaft in the hole to see if the cylinder goes up and down. That might help you discover if the pushrod is broken..

SOURCE: I have a Briggs & Stratton 500 series push lawn

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
When a primer bulb is slow to return to a static conditon there is a restriction in the fuel supply. Since this carb is mounted directly on top of the fuel tank the troubleshooting for this involves removing the gas tank and carb as an assembly from the engine. Remove the end bolt and then the side bolt spacer that is just above the tank. Be careful or the spacer will drop. Pull out on the tank until it slides off of the intake. When the tank is free of the engine tile the bottom of the tank toward you and disconnect the throttle linkage. NOTE the hole the linkage is connected to! Set the tank on a flat surface and remove the carb mounting screws. STOP! Do not lift the carb off of the tank until your sure that the gasket and diaphragm are not stuck to both mounting surfaces. You may have to carefuly slide a thin knife blade FLAT across the top of the tank to free the carb from the tank. There will be a SPRING on the bottom of the cabr also. Do not lose this spring and ensure you see how it is installed! Once the carb is free of the tank clean the screen under the carb and the carb with carb cleaner. Reassemble carb to tank. Fill tank with gas and re-check primer bulb BEFORE you reinstall the tank and carb on the engine. If it still does not work.. properly you need to clean the passages again. Worst case you remove the primber bulb to see if there is debris inside the bulb plunger area. Installing tank and carb to engine....
Tip the bottom of the tank toward you.. connect the throttle linkage, watch the o-ring that is in the carb intake sealing area and make sure it seals. Install side bolt and then the end bolt.

Just back tracking here.. I have determined this is most likely a 11A-B04E000 Yard machine with a 5.0 Hp engine... ( Briggs and Stratton refers to this engine as the 10T500 series.
ENGINE Parts list is here:

I bought a series 500 push mower yesterday and the motor will not turn. How to I fix this?

is the engine locked up? if not the engine brake cable may be broken inside the housing. take the cable off and see if you can take channel locks and release pressure off the flywheel if it turn then buy a new cable or take the spring off and run it like that.

3hp briggs and stratton push mower/pull rope does not engage and turn over engine

if its the old 3hp engine then they have a starter clutch fixed to the crank shaft. they have ball bearings inside and can sometimes get stuck or the gears can wear out. you would need a special tool to remove the starter clutch but you can prise off the top plate on the clutch to inspect the internal workings

I hit a brick, lawnmower won't move help

check for bent crankshaft at blade connection point. do this by removing spark plug and turn the mower on its side with carburator side up, now spin blade by hand and see if it will spin without a wobble. if it does not want to move, something else inside the engine is damaged and probably not worth fixing. if the blade does not spin true, it is a bent crank and might be able to be straightened by a mechanically inclined person without further damage to the motor. also check to see if the piston is moving while spinning the blade if it will turn at all. When trying to start lawn mower, engine turns over than locks up when engine fires, pulling starter rope out of your hand and not starting

The flywheel key could be sheared. This is a problem that occurs if you have hit anything with the blade. It usually takes quite a hit to knock out the flywheel key. Here is a video to help you replace the flywheel key.

If you think the rope pulls too easily the engine may not have enough compression. Consider doing a compression test or a leak-down test on the cylinder.

Does the starter rope rewind? If So and You removed the engine shroud you have to be sure the Pull Starter lines up with the flywheel nut. If the rope does not rewind the return spring is broken so you have to get a spring and remove the shroud and install it. I would take the shroud off and with me to get the spring and the place may install it for you. Bolt the shroud back on and you should be in business.
