It sounds like you don't have the proper driver installed for that device. Without the appropriate driver your software will not be able communicate with the device properly.
Also check your setup when booting your machine to see if the device is being recognized properly. Also check your setup when booting your machine to see if the device is being recognized properly.

we may need more details but you can try this for now
1. are you sure you have a cd writer or a dvd writer (writer = burner)--- check the front edge of your cd/dvd unit and look for words like "writer" "burner" or writeable next to the word dvd or compact disc... keep in mind not all cd/dvd writer can write (burn) cd or dvds, some may burn cd but not dvds.
2. is your cd/dvd unit compatible with the media (cd or dvd blank disk) you are trying to use.. depending your cd/dvd especifications your dvd/cd drive is compatible with certain types of cd or dvds that are writeable.
3. is the cd/dvd a writeable cd/dvd and is compatible with your cd/dvd drive? for instance.. if you are using a blank dvd and your cd/dvd drive only burn cd/s and read dvd and cd you won't be able to write to the blank dvd.
4. are you trying to burn a dvd in a corporate computer.?? as a user (not an administrator) of your corporate computer you may not have priviledges that will allow them to burn dvd/cd's even you your drive and your media are compatible.
please post
the error that you get
the brand and model of the computer you're using
the type of media you're using
Type of media settings might be the issue but making a
change for standard CD/DVD recording (it affects reading too) Issue can
be resolved. Right click on the CD/DVD drive (Usually D or E drive ) click
on properties and select and choose the recording option. Click the
enable CD recording for this drive option
Click
on apply and OK. Try again. You may try after reboot the computer. If
issue persist please post so we can think about some alternate
solutions.
this is nothing to do with the writer, the space it is refering to is your c drive hard drive space.
When a dvd burns a video or photos etc, it has to write the image of whatever you are getting it to write it to your hard drive first, then when all the files are checked and encoded it will only then burn to the dvd disc.
Your problem is you do not have enough free space on your hard drive for this to happen, that is why an error is reported.
A dvd needs atleast 5GB of hard drive space to encode it first then burn it so check in the properties of your C drive to see how much space you have left, a minimum of 10GB is recommended.
You seem to have a related problem, you can't burn cd's and you cannot install windows without an error.
Either your hard drive has a bad sector where it keeps trying to write the data or your dvd drive has a reading error.
Firstly check your hard drive for errors, right click on your 'c' drive and down to properties, then click on tools tab, then error checking.
This can take quite a while, so be patient.
Secondly, there have been numerous updates from Nero especially related to Service Pack 2 so download the latest updates from their 'Ahead Nero' website, they are free as you are'nt upgrading just updating.
Your ratings are important
