SOURCE: Door won't open on Samsung washer

This has happened to me twice. Both times I found the drain pump seized up with
1st time) The right rim from a pair of reading glasses
2nd time) A plastic toothpick
Both times the object was in the discharge port of the pump. You can see this by lifting the check valve with the pump removed. Removing the pump is simple. Unplug the washer. You have to remove the drain line from where its attached to the rear of the machine (one screw) to remove the rear access panel which slides into upper and lower slots. You will see the pump with an inlet and discharge line attached. The lines have simple squeeze clamps. When you remove the lines, you will drain the wash basin so have towels and a squeegie handy. Remove both lines and wait until the basin drains. When it stops draining remove the pumps electrical connector by squeezing the release catch on it while pulling it. The connector can only go on one way. Remove the 3 hold-down bolts on the pump baseplate. Remove the pump and lift open the discharge check valve and you'll find something there I guarantee it. Remove with needle nose pliers and re-assemble in reverse order.
This is actually a good design because the computer protects the pump by sensing a higher than normal current draw when foreign debris gets jammed in it. It will trigger the ND (No Drain) code and sometimes lock the door. Always check this first before you call the expensive repair man. If its not a jammed pump it will most likely be the control panel/processor. Good luck and always clean out pockets before loading the washer to prevent this,

SOURCE: Samsung washer keeps reading ND. Have manually

The nd error code stands for No Drain.

Try following the steps here:
http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/jsp/faqs/faqs_view_us.jsp?SITE_ID=1&PG_ID=4&PROD_SUB_ID=864&PROD_ID=866&AT_ID=149972

You will need to slide the unit forward to access the pump if there is no access panel on the lower front. If the clean out access panel is on the lower front bail the water from the washer and twist the filter head counter-clockwise. If the front panel does not have the access panel the washer will need to be slide forward. With the washer pulled out the back access panel can be removed. With the panel removed, the drain pump will be visible. Remove the two hoses on the pump followed by the two 7/16 bolts that mount the pump down. With the pump off, you can now remove the debris inside.
Put the washer back together and test for proper operation. If the error code comes back this means that the pump is clogged again or the pump has failed and would need to be replaced.

I hope this information helps you. A 4-thumbs up rating is greatly appreciated. :)

Maytag Neptune TL clothes still dripping wet after full cycle

Pump out time of 40 seconds sounds good.

No ND error code and you spin up to 850RPM which is max for the machine.

You have no standing water in the wash basket.... I'm scratching my head.

Could you do a Spin Only cycle with that same wet wash load and set the SPIN for Max Extract. After you start the Spin Only cycle put the machine in Service Mode and watch the RPM range. This cycle sets the display to 12 minutes. Let’s see if the wash load remains wet and what max RPM is reached.

""Maybe the pump is not turning on during the spin cycle?"" You have no standing water in the wash basket correct? I feel the pump is turning on or you would have standing water in the wash basket and the pressure switch would have never indicated an empty condition (Low Level pressure switch contacts) to the Control Board. The Control Board would have stopped the wash cycle with a ND for no drain error code.

The pump in the spin cycle will turn on a number of times see if you hear turn on in a Spin Only cycle

I just ran a Spin Only light wash load with about 5 gallons of water in the wash basket. Timer went to 12 min. I toggled into Service Mode to watch wash basket RPM. At about the 5 Min mark (toggle in and out of Service Mode) the wash basket reached 850RPM then a few minutes later it stepped down to 830RPM to end of Spin Only Cycle. You don’t have a water valve stuck open or you would flood/over flow of the machine. Did you here the drain pump turn on several times during the Spin Only cycle?

What does "nd" mean on my neptune washer

Hello tana_carney4,

Your in the FAV6800AW forum so I’ll assume your machine type is a FAV6800AW or FAV9800AW. I’m an owner of the FAV6800AW with some hands on experience with the machine.

The ND error code equals No Drain. The microprocessor on the Control Board keeps track of the time needed to receive a Low/Mid Level fill indication from the pressure switch at the start of a tub drain cycle. If that time elapses and the pressure switch is signaling that the tub has watering remaining then you trigger the ND error code. Is the tub empty or is there standing water in the tub with the ND error code?

If the wash tub is empty and you fail out of the wash cycle with the ND error code then I feel you have pressure switch failure, the pressure switch is signaling the Control Board incorrectly. We need to go into Service Mode “Board Input Test “ and check if the pressure switch is signaling a -1 with an empty tub (no water). If rhe pressure is signaling a -1 with an empty tub then the pressure switch is false signaling “Stuck Pressure Switch” you will error out in the wash cycle with the ND error code and the Pressure Switch will have to be replaced.

If the wash tub has standing water in the tub with a ND error code to the console we need to check for a failed drain motor, a drain pump impeller jam/clog. We would go into Service Mode turn the drain pump and listen. Do we hear the drain pump turn on? If so will it pump out 5 gallons of water in about 25 seconds or less as my working FAV6800AW will do? Further troubleshooting will require a DVM to verify that 120VAC is applied to the drain pump, If we have 120VAC at the drain pump motor connections and we don’t hear it turn on we would need to remove the drain pump and check for failed motor or jammed impeller. If the drain pump turns on but we have slow drain out of the drain pump we could would need to remove the drain line from the Sump Cap to the inlet of the drain pump and check for restrictions and possible impeller damage to the drain pump.

The question is do you just want know what the ND error code is?

Do you want to DIY the repair? If not then it would be time to call in a repair service.

Here is the FAV6800A/ FAV9800A Service Manual link.

If your machine type is not a FAV6800AW or FAV9800AW then please disregard my post.

Code nd FAV6800AWW, Serial number 10

Hello HopelessR,
Don’t buy a clutch I don’t feel it’s a clutch issue at this point. I hope you can hang in there for some basic troubleshooting. I’m an owner like you not a repair person but I have worked some issues. I feel with the info supplied that you have a true “nd” alarm. The “nd” alarm is triggered when the washer fails to drain completely as monitored by the pressure switch input to the control board and the factory program time limit required for draining the washer. I have never experienced an “nd” alarm until this evening. This was a user induced “nd” failure by pumping wash water back into the tub during the drain cycle of Quick Wash cycle. I started a Quick Wash cycle with no clothes in the washer and with the remaining three settings set to min settings. At the 22 min mark the washer started the drain pump and began a slow spin CCW of the wash basket. It took several minutes of pumping wash water back into the wash tub to trigger “nd” alarm. The washer indicated time stayed at the 21 min mark until the “nd” alarm triggered. 1st test; could you start a Quick Wash cycle with what you would consider a full wash load with the settings I mentioned and let’s see what the results are. I don’t feel you have a clutch issue with no dc/UC error codes to the console. I believe at this point that you have a drain restriction problem. I can’t explain why the washer completes the cycle with the wash basket empty at this point. The 2nd test, do you have a deep sink you can pump the wash water into and observe the stream output? The stream my FAV6800AWW will produce is about a 3” vertical column of water out of the drain pipe held over the deep sink with the drain pump running and no clothes in the wash basket. If you have a deep sink and a helper that can turn on the drain pump in service mode as outlined below we can compare your drain pump output to mine.
You can turn on the drain pump in Service Mode with the process below.
1. Enter Service Mode by pressing both the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys simultaneously until the washer beeps.

2. Next you need to go into the Board Output Test by pressing the Delicates key; your display should now read “ot”.

3. Now press the Presoak key this will start the drain pump and it should begin to empty the tub.

You can press the Off button to stop the drain pump.
If the output stream is low we can troubleshoot the restriction starting at the Sump Cap Item 9 and work back toward the drain pump.
I’ll hang in there with you if you want to continue to troubleshoot the issue. Maybe we can get some suggestions from other forum members. Rich
