Unless you're in very cold locations use SAE 5W30 regular motor oil.

SOURCE: My porter cable generator 3000 wt will not stay running once star

Hi,
If this generator has been stored for any length of time with fuel in the carb you probably have a plugged main jet in the carb. As joboo1 says there are a few other things that could cause this behavior, but most often I see dirty carbs, water in the fuel, and plugged/dirty air filters. Get a flashlight and look into the fuel tank thru the filler hole, if you see anything floating in there you've got water in the fuel. Look at the ari cleaner, oil and fuel on the element indicate a dirty carb. Of course check the oil level. Lastly, take the bowl off the bottom of the carb (shut off the fuel valve first), if you see debris in there the carb needs a good cleaning.

Regards,
Carl

SOURCE: no electricity from generator

If you have a voltmeter, you can check the voltage coming out of the outlet. If you have some kind of residual voltage, such as 25 Volts AC or 10 volts ac, then you probably have a voltage regulator problem and your regulator will need to be replaced. If you read 0 volts then you you have an open between the output (outlet) and the windings of the stator.

SOURCE: Generator stopped producing electricity

if the generator has been sitting for a while you might have to excite the magnets to start producing power. plug in a reversible drill and with the generator running turn the drill in the reverse direction by hand while holding the trigger in the forward position.

Lost the owners manual and need to know what type of oil it takes.

any good 30 weight will do fine. If yuo run it a great deal like I do mine I put a little STP type of lube in with the oil to help it out there. Also change the oil about every 50 hours so you dont get oil break down

Best of luck

Tom

What type and weight of oil do you use

Porter Cable recommends straight 30 weight synthetic oil for their engines. However, If you live in a colde climate or in a hot climate, the use of multi-viscosity oils is my recommendation. Straight 30 weight oil in my cold climate would not work. So, it really depends on where you live.
30/5 works well in a cold climate like mine.

Hope this helps. If it does, I would appreciate a vote. Thanks,

Handie Andie

What type of oil do i take for a porter cable 5250 watt electric generator?

Your generators take ordinary 10W30 motor oil.
We use these things on the job.
Don't turn engine upside down or on its side to drain oil, or oil will run into carburetor
