After a half hour to two hours use our display, using HDMI, will become garbled for a fraction of a second and then go black, but still has sound. We have tried other inputs with similar results. After turning off, unpluging the TV, and waiting a few minutes, we can then plug in the TV and turn it back on with a normal picture--this only lasts for a few minutes before picture loss repeats.
This is NOT a problem with the backlight as we can obviously see some light seepage when the LCD is polorized during failure. This is NOT a problem with the LCD array as there are no defects during initial operation. This IS a problem with one of the boards inside the TV.
Does anyone know witch board/component is causing this intermitent failure once the temperature has obviously warmed up from use?
I would check to see if there are any firmware updates for your tv on Vizio's website. This usually involves downloading the update onto a usb stick and turning the tv on with the usb stick in the tv's usb port.
Before picture/sound is shown on the tv, the source and tv talk to each other over HDMI to make sure there's no piracy going on (don't you just love DRM?). If the source gets a strange response or doesn't get a response fast enough, it may assume that something illegal is going on and cut the connection to the tv.

We have verified there is no problem with the backlight as the very bright light from the CCF panel is coming out the vents in the top and back of the TV the same as when it displays a picture.
We have power cycled the television during cool down by unpluging it and pressing the PWR button for 60 seconds to deplete any electricity stored.
We are looking at replacing Main Board 3647, but would like positive or negative feedback and any other suggestions about simple fixes before spending $140.
There are no firmware updates available for the VX42L 10A LCD unit at this time. Yes, we just absolutely love DRM too...
We have seen the same display problem on RCA composite inputs as we have on the HDMI inputs, and with no new firmware downloads, for now we have ruled out DRM issues.
