  1. I am surprised that you have to set the needle bar but put a NEW needle in the bar or make sure that the needle set screw is to the right side of the bar
  2. If your needle bar is already loose, there should be two small lines about 1/4" apart on your needle bar, where you can see it between the needle and the underneath of the machine.
  3. The needle bar height is set when the top line is flush with the body of the machine. Tighten your needle bar screw.
  4. Now wind the hand wheel towards you until the 2nd line is flush with the body of the machine. Push your machine back so you can see the hook. Set the tip of the hook one thread away from the scarf of your new needle and in the middle of the needle. Tighten the screws on the hook, put the machine back down (make sure that you have put your bobbin case back in) and test to see if you can pick up a thread when you wind your hand wheel towards you.
  5. If you are not picking up the thread, I find that I have to put my throat plate back on to pick it up most of the time. You may have to redo this several times especially if your hook is old and worn. It's possible but harder.
  6. Good Luck. There are a couple people on youtube showing how to time a sewing machine. They are all pretty much the same. It doesn't have to be someone who is especially trying to time a 555,

SOURCE: how to set timing and bobbin in my juki ddl-555

hi there
when you need to set timing please first make sure height of needle bar is ok. there's two mark at needle bar, the upper one is for height of needle bar: bring the needle bar at lowest position and in this case the upper mark must be equal with lower needle bar bushing.
second : set timing
move hand machine pulley at the same rotation and when the lower mark equal with lower needle bar pushing the tip of hook must be at the center of needle groove and just light touch not hit. that's all

Hi I just purchased a used Juki DDL-555. 1) It will not catch the bobbin thread. 2) it will not sew forward and feed the fabric along (it sews in reverse just fine). Can someone please help?

the material movement is set by the forward/ reverse knob or lever
not picking up the thread can be needle thread tension too loose
it can be needle hook timing

My wife broke several needles on her Juki DDL 555 machine and I need to know how to adjust the timing as she put a new needle in and the point was damaged

First thing to check is if you've got the right needle system: http://partsbooks.sewingmachine.com/Instructions/Juki/Industrial/DDL-5550%20&%205530%20Instruction%20Manual.pdf and that the needle is correctly oriented... the scarf has to be precisely set.
The next things I'd check are the stitch cycle -- hand crank the machine through the normal stitch cycle and see what's hitting. Then fix that. I've got my suspicions this may be a needle bar height adjustment. Don't thread up for this test... misthreading can also cause the needle to hit something and break, so start with the fewest possible variables first.

Juki Sewing machine DDL-555. After 4-5 hours use feed not moving

Sounds like as the machine builds up friction from extended use, some vital part is lacking lubrication and is seizing up. A good service person will remove ALL of the covers and thoroughly air clean and oil every moving part. Sometimes these dry points are hard to find and patience is required.

You can get a sewing machine oiler with a long applicator and put a drop of oil on anything that moves, but over oiling can be messy.
