If I understand, you are tying to fill a tire with an air pump.
I would start by seeing if the pump works without attaching it to the tire nozzle. Is it easier to push now? I wouldn't expect the pressure gauge to go up at this test, as there will be no pressure built up. If you are still having trouble, the pump might be malfunctioning or blocked by something.
If all works well, make sure you push the hose adapter firmly on the tire stem to open the air flow, using any locking mechanism to secure it down. It can be tricky to get this on correctly.
Had the same thing happen. It turns out you can pry off the plastic ring around the dial, then remove the clear plastic window. I did that and just stuck the needle back on at 0.

They should be designed to fit both styles of valve, but you need to reverse the seal.
you should be able to unscrew the end, remove the sealing rubber and a plastic fitting that pushes on the valve, replace them the opposite way around ,and they will fit the presta.
Older model pumps screw in. Newer models get inserted and then you either push the lever down or pull it up to lock onto the threaded end of the needle
