Cloves are more similar to allspice than pickling spice, if you have some.

Yes you could substitute pickling spice. The flavor will be different than simply allspice. Pickling spice is a mixture of many spices, including Allspice. The mixture usually contains mustard seeds, whole coriander seeds, bay leaves and red pepper flakes. You may prefer the Pickling Spice mixture to just Allspice, but if the recipe is listing the other ingredients that are in the pickling spice leave them out if you sub Pickling spice

SOURCE: Car Heater smells strange

from he Popular Mechanics site if the smell in your car is like maple syrup:

(1) SMELLS LIKE: MAPLE SYRUP
WHEN: After the engine has warmed or possibly even after it's shut off for a few minutes.
THE CULPRIT: Coolant containing sweet-smelling (but toxic) ethylene glycol is leaking from somewhere. It could be coming from a radiator or heater hose, a failed intake manifold gasket or cylinder head. It might be coming from a leaky radiator cap or the radiator itself, especially if you smell it outside the car. A strong odor inside the passenger compartment probably means a bad heater core.

SOURCE: mix cycle does not mix add ins evenly or thoroughly

Hi,
Check the belt on the motor. It could be lose or has fallen off. Also check the motor to see that it turns in a kneading cycle and check to see if you can spin the paddle freely by hand. Hank

Homemade pumpkin pie spice mix

Have you ever wanted to make a recipe that calls for "pumpkin pie spice" but don't have it in your pantry? It turns out, pumpkin pie spice in made from things that most people already have so there's no need to go out and spend the money on another spice that's just going to sit on the shelf. Instead, you can make your own with stuff you probably already have lying around your spice rack.

Here is all you need to make your own pumpkin pie spice:
  • 4 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons ground ginger
  • 3 teaspoons ground allspice
  • 3 teaspoons ground cloves
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground nutmeg

Take these ingredients and put them in a small mason jar or some tupperware and shake them up good.

You don't need to use exact measurements and can alter to your own taste. My kids hate the taste of ginger so I usually cut it by about half.

On a side note, pumpkin pie spice tastes great sprinkled on your morning coffee or over your late night scoop of vanilla ice cream!

A bag full of chicken - Quick and easy recipe for chicken in oven bags

A few weeks ago i had to quickly make a big tray of chicken legs and thighs and had no time to be paying much attention to it.
Therefore I took a big oven bag and improvised a recipe. It came out delicious! Here is what i did:
I set the chicken (about 15 legs and thighs) in a big oven bag and i poured in it a half cup of olive oil and some spices (of each spice i spread around the amount of a teaspoon circa): black papper, tumeric, grill mix, sweet paprika and a bit of sugar and salt.
I also added some little diced potatoes and sweet potatoes, i closed the bag real tight and i started shaking it and making sure that all the oil and spices were covering every part of the chicken.
Then i set the bag on an aluminium tray (so that when it leaked it wouldn't stain the oven) and put it in the oven at about 160 degrees Celsius for about an hour until the chicken looked well cooked and the potatoes soft.
I suggest flipping the bag every once in a while so to mix the contents and allow the food to cook uniformly. I also suggest to avoid putting the bag too close to the sides of the oven and to it's top because it might burn little holes in the bag and leak.
The chicken cooked this way will stay moist and soft, and at the same time intensely tasty!
Bon Apetit!

How do you make sweet potato dumplings?

Spray a 13x9x2 inch baking dish or pan. Take one can of biscuits and peel each one in half, (you'll have 16 pieces). I have used crescent roll dough, but biscuits are easier. Press biscuit pieces to flatten them and place sweet potato to one side of the biscuit. I use frozen sweet potato patties but, you can use canned sweet potatoes (mash them good) for this recipe. Cut the patties in half or use 1 heaping tablespoon of mashed sweet potato and put the sweet potato to one side of the biscuit. Sprinkle with your spices of choice ( pumpkin pie spice, apple pie spice or even just cinnamon). Bring the one side of the biscuit over the other side and press the edges together to seal it really good. Line your dumplings in two rows in your baking dish, sprinkle with your spices of choice. Now, in a saucepan combine 2 cups of water,2 cups of sugar,1 1/2 sticks of butter (or margarine), 1 tablespoon of corn starch, 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Whisk together and put on a medium-high heat until just boiling-- all the time whisking ( to prevent lumps). Soon as it boils pour it over the dumplings. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. When you pull it form the oven sprinkle with cinnamon and serve. If there is any left-over (HAHA!) It reheats well and is still SO_O_O_O fantastic!

HOW TO MAKE PANI PURI

How to make pani poori at home

Ingredients needed for the pani

Ice cold water - 3 cups
Green chutney - 3 tbsp
Sweet chutney (dates tamarind chutney) - 2 tbsp
Chilli powder - 1 tsp
Chaat masala powder- 1 1/2 tsp
Roasted Cumin/jeera powder -1 tsp (dry roast cumins seeds and powder it)
Boondi - fistful

(Click the link for green chutney and sweet chutney recipes)

Method for preparing Pani

Take ice cold water in a bowl and mix all the ingredients mentioned above from green chutney to jeera powder. There are no hard and fast rules regarding the measurement. You can taste the pani and add more or less of chutney or spice powder according to your personal preferences. Chill for an hour for the flavors to get blended well with the pani. Add a fistful of boondi to the pani.
So now our pani/spiced water for pani poori is ready.

Pooris - 15 pooris - These pooris are easily available in supermarkets, so you do not have to strain yourself making these pooris. After all, we are not going to have pani puri everyday. You can get it ready made. I got it ready made from Nilgiris. Anyway I will post the poori recipe later.

What is the sequence for placing the bread ingredients in the baking container of the bread machine.

How To Make Bread (without a bread machine)
Step 1 What you'll need

Step 2. Make the sponge
This recipe uses what I call a "sponge." The sponge will activate the yeast and get things started; getting the yeast warm, happy, and ready to go Start by mixing the hot water and the flour. Then, add 2 Tbsp. sugar, 2 Tbsp. oil, 2 Tbsp. yeast, and 2 tsp. salt. Let this sit for about 8 or 10 m…Step 3. Add some flour and knead it
Now you need to add about 3 more cups of flour. I added a little less this time, it really depends on the humidity and how exact your measurements were in the sponge step. let the dough rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes to an hour. the dough should be about doubled in size by the time it's finished.

Step 6. Into the oven
Preheat your oven to 375 F and put the loaves in. Bake them for about 25 minutes. Your quick read thermometer should read between 180 and 190 degrees.
