I have used my SMC rouoter to connect to my computer previously, but as I move it to my new computer, I can't access the router (via cmd line ping, or browser) I've tried resetting router (via reset button), clearing brwser history/cache, and tried renewing ipconig (that doesn't work either if the router is connected between pc, and cable modem). any assistance ?

Can't ping or access modem through dir-600l

Your cable modem is a normal home use cable modem. You do not need to configure your modem. Your ISP will send the information needed to the modem once it has been registered to their systems. With most cable ISP you should be able to connect the modem to the cable and gain access to the modem registration. NOTE: You must sign up for service first.

If you wish to access your modem page then you will have to change the WAN IP address to something like 192.168.100.25. Do not use 192.168.100.1 nor 192.168.100.255. Once done you will then be able to access your modem's web page.

I can not connect to the internet via my browsers (firefox and IE), i get bad request. When I directly connect my computer to the modem excluding the router I get access. Any ideas?

try to see if you can access the internet using ping Press the Windows key (bottom left of the keyboard} and at the same time press the R key, now in the search box that appears - type CMD a black box will appear in there type the following ping google.com if you get for replies then you can access the internet and your firewall maybe blocking the access try disabling the firewall. If you get no reply -then you need to look at the settings of the router you could do a factory reset of the router - button on the back of the router marked reset , hold the button - or using a untwisted paperclip in the hole - for 10secs The router will now be reset

I received a new 2wire 2701HG-B modem router for AT&T DSL (replacing an older 2wire that burned out) and was able to hook up laptops right away no problem, but desktop doesnt recognize new modem how do...

are you on windows XP, Vista, MAC ???

you start out by seeing if you can ping the 2wire. The ip address you ping from a command prompt is the 2wire's gateway, 192.168.1.254

(you can get to the command prompt by clicking start, then click run, and type cmd and click ok on windows XP)
(on vista, you just click start and type cmd right above it where it says start search and hit enter on your keyboard)
(MAC's have a ping utility located by clicking on the harddrive, applications, network, network utility, and then the ping tab)

a little black window pops open, thats your command prompt

type ping 192.168.1.254 and hit enter on your keyboard

if you dont get replies, then your computer doesn't see the 2wire.

call tech support at 877-722-3755 24/7 for further support if required. We can make sure you nic is config properly, working properly, your not being blocked by a firewall, etc.

Two router home network problem

Can you still connect to the Internet with the Linksys router? I suggest that you go ahead and reset the SMC router to clear up your previously configured settings. Then before reconnecting it to the linksys router, make sure that you can access its web interface via 192.168.1.1. Don't disable DHCP as your computer won't be able to obtain an IP address from it automatically. Do not change other settings. Next, disconnect the ethernet cable and check if you can access the router interface wirelessly. Once done, connect SMC's WAN port to Linksys' numbered port. Make sure SMC's WAN light is on, as well as the light for the port you used on the Linksys router. Check if you can get online.

With this configuration, the linksys router is now acting like a modem, and the SMC as your router. As long as you're online when wired to the linksys, you should also be able to access the net on the SMC once you physically connect them.

Have a HP C7280 Photosmart all in one for wireless connection with Belkin 54g Router. Finds router and everything works correctly but when the device is active (switched on) it disrupts attempts to access...

You mentioned it's disrupting internet access when turned on. Can you post the results of a ping and tracert (with it connected via ethernet and turned on)? To ping: 1. Start > Run and type: cmd 2. At the prompt, enter the following and press enter (after each line); cd c:\ ping google.co.uk >> ping.txt ping.txt The last line of the above, will open ping.txt in Notepad, for you to post here. To Tracert: 1. Click Start > Run and type: cmd 2. At the prompt, enter the following (again, press enter after each line) cd c:\ tracert google.co.uk >> tracert.txt tracert.txt The last line of the above, will open ping.txt in Notepad, for you to post here.

Wireless connection

Go to your PC.

Start --> Run -- > cmd -->ipconfig. Chk the ip address in the default gateway. From ur laptop. chk if you can ping that ip. To ping -- Start --> Run --> cmd -- > ping xxx.xxx.xx.x.

If you cant ping it, just means there is no communicaition betwen the router and the computer. Meanwhile, make sure that the laptop is close enough to the router and you have a good signal strength.

Smc wireless router

configuring this smc router depends on your internet service provider..
if your isp is cable , then connect the cables from the wall outlet to the modem and the modem to the router and the router to the pc..
find out the IP address is ipconfig (Start -> Run -> "cmd" [enter] -> "ipconfig" [enter]). pix.gif The command to ping the router is ping 192.168.2.1. Both are to be executed from a command prompt.

In the routers web interface, click on login (password would be either blank or smcadmin) -> Advanced setup -> click on WAN -> Dynamic IP address -> click on clone MAC address and save the settings.

and now u would be able to go online wired..

to go online w/ls
In the routers web-interface -> click on login -> Advanced setup -> wireless -> enable -> apply -> channel and SSID -> Set the following values:

SSID : Set it to your name SSID broadcast : Enabled wireless Mode : Long range Mixed (11b + 11g ) Transmission rate : 11/ 54/ 108 Mbps Channel : 6 g-nitro : disabled

check in w/ls w/ls laptopt, u would c the w/ls n/w name which u have setup, connect to it u would go online w/ls

To setu ur router for a dsl connection..
In the routers web interface -> Click on login (password would be either blank or smcadmin) -> Advanced setup -> WAN -> PPPoE -> Enter the following values:
  • Type in the Username and the password provided by your ISP.
  • Set MTU = 1440.
  • Set maximum idle time to zero.
  • Save the settings.
And the w/ls settings r the same as mentioned earlier..
