Practice has proved that in order to maintain the smooth start ofdiesel generators, four necessary conditions must be met: a. It must have a certain speed; b. The oil and gas circuits must be unobstructed; C. The cylinders are well compressed; d. The fuel supply timing. From the above prerequisites for starting a diesel generator, it can be inferred that the diesel generator cannot start or is not easy to start.

SOURCE: onan 4000 start good runs only ten minutsand shuts down, starts up

First locate the oil pressure switch and see if you can bypass it,then see if it runs. If not check the fuel filter and fuel pump, make sure solonoid for fuel pump is kicking on.

Loosen the fuel cap when you shut it down tighten it before you restart. If this fixes it you have a plugged fuel vent. HTH

SOURCE: Honda ems 4000 generator starts and runs great, but no power

At the controller, you need to see if it is actually sending electricity out of the Generator/Alternator, have a look where the leads from the power making unit mates, (Think of it as a motor in reverse) onto the board. There should be an AC Voltage there, then, work back, or out from there, trace the Voltage until it stops, thats the problem... Check the Breaker isn't tripped or faulty too.

SOURCE: Honda ems 4000 generator starts and runs great, but no power

The plunger is stuck where the governor rod which is spring attached to the frame is. If you locate the governor metal rod on the lower level of the unit. zrock it to a higher rpm as you would a car carburator from under the hood.
This will free the plunger and the green light will go on and your current meter will register 120 volts.

When you lay up the generator for quite some time it often sticks closed. With monthly start up you will no have this problem reoccurr.

SOURCE: My Coleman Powermate 7000 won't

I not you said you "checked the oil level" My experience with most portable generators is that they must me positioned as level as possible and the oil level must be fully serviced as full as you can get it without oil leaking back out of the dip-stick hole on units WITHOUT an extended dip-stick. Unless those conditions are met the low oil level sensor ends up presenting a false low oil signal and it grounds out the ignition. DO you have Spark at all? If you do have spark and it still does not run respond with the MODEL number off of your ENGINE and I will show you where the main fuel jets are located so you can make sure the orifice is clean.
Some units have a fuel solenoid that presses into the main fuel jet recessed area and shut off the fuel to the carb. This is also an area that debris causes havoc.

Thanks,
Kelly

Brand new 4000 predator generator. Has gas, has oil. Get it started, slowly turn off choke, then generator starts gasping for air and stalls out. Generator will not start again for at least 15 min. I'm...

Check fuel valve is open (completely).

p1-uzufv3no1vvckzaawwuvypu2-3-0_0.png

If not the valve then check fuel flow. Turn fuel off and remove carburetor bowl drain. There will be approximately a 1/4 cup of fuel drain out then stop. When flow stops turn fuel valve to ON and a steady trickle of fuel should flow. If it merely drips fuel, then there's blockage or fuel valve is not opening fully. Try loosening fuel cap and see if flow improves.

My 4000 watt predator generator starts ok then starts racing

Loose carburetor mount at engine intake port and/or carburetor fouling. Check the carburetor mounting adapter (gasket) is intact and all carburetor mounting bolts at proper torque.

I have a Predator 4,000 generator that wont stay running. I followed all recommended instructions before trying to start it. It ran first time for about two minutes and died.same thing every time.

sounds like a fuel flow problem.Pull the fuel line off at the carb and see if fuel flows well when you turn the gas on.If the fuel is flowing to the carb, you will have to remove the float bowl off the bottom of the carb and check for fuel flow through the needle and seat which the float controls in the carb.If fuel flows well through the needle and seat and the float words well without binding, next is to clean the main jet which may be plugged.Ethanol in the fuel these days can cause problems in these areas.ALWAYS shut off the fuel in all small engines and let the carb run dry when storing small engines for any length of time.

Onan generator microquiet 4000

Check the pickup tube in the vehicle, the fuel pump is suspect. If you check the fuel pump pressure and it is ok, then try installing a test check valve between the fuel delivery hose to the generator. If it solves the problem the pump is losing it's prime internally, so replace the fuel pump.

Our onan generator ran out of gas. we refueled but the generator will not start. i gave it a shoot of starting fluid, the generator fired and run for a second, then died. could it be a cogged fuel filter?...

No, not the filter, you will need to try to prime the carb better then with starting fluid, pour some gasoline down the carb, you may have to do this a few times, but everything will fire back up again once you get the air out of the system
