SOURCE: Washer Tub Fills With Water When Washer is Not On
I suspect you have a water inlet valve problem. When the valves fail, they tend to either leak by, or do not open at all. The symptom you are describing is typical of an inlet valve that is not closing properly. The leak may be minute, but over time, it fills the tub and over flows. To access the water inlet valve, you will need to remove the washer top panel. Remove the three screws in the back that hold the top in place and slide the panel straight back and lift off. The water inlet valve will be located on the left hand side in the rear between the fill hoses and the dispenser (as viewed from the front of the washer). If you wish to perform this repair yourself, you can find the part at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your complete model number and the part can be located on the next page under the "Dispenser Parts" section as item number one (part #8181694). The replacement process is very simple. Just turn off the water source, remove the fill hoses, the dispenser hose and the mounting screws. If you need further assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
SOURCE: roper washer top loader spins very slow
if the appliance has a induction type motor could be that the running capacitor is failing coul be the motor itself
SOURCE: Roper washer will not spin or drain-
you may have something stuck in your pump, preventing it from draining. The washer will not spin until it does drain. You'll have to empty the tub (you can do this with gravity by taking the drain hose and putting it down near the floor in a bucket). You will have to take the cabinet off, then take the hoses off the pump. Have some towels ready! Look inside the pump and hoses for an obstruction. If the fins inside the pump are damaged, you will have to replace it. If there is no obstruction here, look down inside the hose drain. Run a coat hanger down if neccessary to see if theres a blockage. The pump could be dead, too.
You could have a dead spot on the timer, but this is doubtful.

Motor Coupling
If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor
coupling might have failed. The motor coupling connects the motor to
the washer transmission. It is designed to fail if the washer is
overloaded in order to protect both the motor and
Drive Belt
If the washer won't spin or agitate, check
the drive belt. If the belt is broken or if it isn't tight on the
pulleys the washer won't spin or agitate properly.
Drive Motor
If the washer won't spin or agitate the drive
motor might be defective. This is not common. Check all of the other
related parts to this symptom before replacing the motor. If the motor
is visibly burned out or physically damaged, replace it.
Stator Assembly
If the washer won't spin or agitate the
stator assembly might be burned out. The stator is essentially one half
of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong
electro-magnet. If the stator burns out the washer won't spin or
agitate. Check the stator for continuity. This part is often
misdiagnosed.
Door or Lid Latch Assembly
If the washer won't spin or agitate the lid
switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The
lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test
any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches
should have continuity according to their design.
Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly
If the washer won't spin or agitate the door
lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either
mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an
Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their
design.
Motor Control Board
If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor
control board might be defective. The motor control board provides
power to the motor as well as direction and force. If the motor control
board is defective the washer may not work at all or function properly.
