Did you figure out if the bottom or the top opens and how to open it up? I have been to 4 jewelers that couldnt figure it out and looked the internet over. I'm ready to give up.

Requires a special knife edged clamp for the job
probably a water proof watch that requires specialist equipment to break the seal

SOURCE: my stauer atomic signal watch won't set correct time

Take a look at http://www.stauer.com/pdf/17468.pdf
I see that this watch gets it's time signal from Boulder, Colorado so it will only work properly in North America. Perhaps they also do models for the European market - if so I would expect them to work in the same fashion so the manual should still be relevant.

How to replace battery can't get back off

There is two methods of removing the back of this style of watch. Look closely at the back of the watch. If it is completely smooth there will be a notch or groove where you can gently, but firmly, lever the back cover off. Use a small screwdriver or a thin flat edged tool, NOT a knife! Refitting is a firm, constant pressure over the whole of the cover.
If there are regular notches, grooves or holes or around the edge of the cover it is a 'screw off' cover. You may need a specialist tool to remove these back plates.
Depending on how much the watch is worth and the cost of the battery it is probably just as easy to get a watch repair shop to do it for you.

I have a pocket watch i bought in paris but the battery ranout and i cant get the back off to get the battery out. what should i do?

Hi Josh, I do apologize for the inconvenience. Please try the below steps which should be helpful for you to remove the back of the watch and also replace the battery.
  1. Flip over your pocket watch. Remove the back of your watch. The back of watches are either screwed on by four small Phillips head screws (unscrew them) or the watch has a press inserted back (slide a thin knife blade under the edge of the back of the watch and pry it off).
    (OR)
Find the small groove on the back of the watch right above the hinge, place the tip of the screwdriver (the small kind used for the screws in glasses) into the groove and gently pry off the back of the watch.
  2. Remove the circular watch battery out of the back of the watch.
  3. Take the battery to any department store or watch store and purchase a new replacement battery.
  4. Insert the new battery into the back of the watch.
  5. Screw on or push on the back of the watch. Set the watch to the correct time.
The above should be of help for you to have the battery on the pocket watch replaced and have the watch working once again.Best wishes for your effort and thank you for your time and patience.

Battery replacement

Hello,

do you mean you want to replace the battery for your watch?

This isn't a difficult task to carry out. Simply get a small flat screw driver, use the screw driver to open the back cover of the watch, then you will see the battery of your watch. Remove the battery and replace with a new batter, cover back the watch and that's all.

Note that you will apply force with the screw driver when you are trying to open the back cover of the watch.

Good luck.

I have a watch i need to take links out

I have a similar watch band and the little grooves are really not for screwdrivers. It is a split pin that just pushes out. I use a jewler's screwdriver or a small nail to push them out because I don't have a pin punch that size. Hope that helps.
