SOURCE: I have a JCC AV-32D305 television. I use Direct TV

Unfortunately JVC had closed caption buttons on the remote and that is the only way to change the CC settings. Go to www.remotes.com and check to see if they have a remote for your set. Thanks

Hello
Without its orginal remote, you can't turn OFF its close caption window.
If you ahve its original remote control, inform me by Fixya comment. I'll assist you to turn off this option. Without orginal remote control, giving any advice to you to rectify this problem, will be waste of time.

I would like to get closed captioning when I watch streaming netflix

Hi Shane,

Captioning is a function of the Roku box itself. Here's a FAQ from Roku to help you get it working. Good luck!

Roku has been working for months tv screen turned black today in middle of program now nothing. Roku is working because power indicator lights up but nothing on screen.

Check the video output cable (HDMI or composite/RCA, etc.) from the Roku to the TV, to make sure it's still connected. Verify that you're watching the input on the TV that the Roku is connected to. If that doesn't work, contact Roku support. I hope your unit didn't just die.

WE HAVE A BLACK BOX IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR TV AND CAN'T GET IT OFF WITH THE REMOTE

Black boxes in the middle of the screen are text boxes. Text is a part of the closed captioning feature either on your television or your cable/set top box. You would press the closed captioning button on the remote repeatedly until it displays cc off or something similar. Captioning might also be active on your cable box/set top box. There is normally a hidden menu on the cable box and that is where closed captioning is. You have to turn the cable box off. Yes I did say turn the cable box off. Then press the menu button on it and then the hidden menu will pop up. Then navigate to closed captioning and choose disable.

A black box keeps appearing in the middle of the screen and stays on until I either turn off the TV or turn on the settings screen and clear it

Somehow, the cable box or some other device changed the settings for the caption box on the TV. While no closed captions were appearing on the screen, the box was being displayed. The box stopped popping up when the captions setting was turned off.

My TV has a black square in the middle of the picture. How do I fix that?

Hi,

Your screen is showing a black picture because the closed caption function has been activated. When this closed caption mode is turned on the screen will display an 80% black picture.

To turn off the closed caption and regain a full screen please follow these steps;

1) Press the Menu button

2) Use the up and down arrows to navigate to Closed Caption

3) Use the right or left arrows to select it.

4) Use the right or left arrows to select OFF

5) Use the up or down arrows to select Finish

6) Use the right or left arrows to save the settings and exit.

You should have your full screen back now minus the annoying black box.

Thanks for using FixYa. A rating is appreciated if the solution has worked for you.

Black square on screen of 19 inch TV

Check your closed-caption settings and be sure they are turned off. If captioning is set for text mode you can have this trouble. The TV blanks out a part of the screen for the text it never gets to display. Once captioning is shut off (or set for normal caption mode if you want to use it) the black box will be gone.
