Becasue the water level sensor id broken or the shut off valve for the water is malfunctioning. If its brand new and has a warranty, i would take it back immediately and get a better known brand. Call the retailer you got it from and explain whats happening and make sure you pay for nothing. If you return it, they should pick it up.
Also, if the door isnt sealing tight and is leaking that means the latch is faulty or the seal is bad and that should still be covered by the Manufacturers warranty. Most things are for about 1 year from day of purchase.

There are 2 green clips between the top of the unit and the front panel. (you can use a flash light to find them easier). Push on the with a putty knife or small flat head screw driver while lifting on the top. Once the top is open, you will find 2 5/16 screws that hold the front panel on at the top on the right and left hand sides. Once these are removed, you can tilt the front panel forward and see where the water is leaking from.

Check out your motor control board near the floor on the right side. These have a high failure rate on the Neptunes. Maytag redesigned both the motor and motor control board to be more reliable. While inspecting this board, you are looking for a blown 10 amp fuse and /or burnt components. If you have either... then you will need the the new motor conversion kit which includes the motor, motor control board and the wire harness.
These kits are offered on the www.neptunewaxmotor.com order form and they ship UPS Ground.
This kit takes about an hour to install.
Don't forget to see the info on the website regarding the defective door latch wax motor that will eventually fail and damage your machine control board.

Set the water level selector to a lower level. The sensor will always work if the water level is much higher than the trigger level. However, the "much higher" condition is never reached if the water is about to overflow.

Have you tried cleaning out in and around the inlet on the washer (where the cold hooks into the washer)? We had the same problem. When I removed the cold water hose, I cleaned out the end of it and the inlet on the washer-there should be a small screen on the washer side. It does it on cold because with the hot, a hot water heater filters most of the debris out of the water before it comes out and the cold water is not filtered. Hope this helps!
Hi
