Ken:
most small AC motors require a starting capacitor, where it ups the power on one of the field magnets that give an initial spin to the armature. Since the 120 volts are equally dispersed over the field windings. If this capacitor is missing or shorted the motor will just hum and not rotate. This capacitor or its equivalent is mounted on a small circuit board somewhere encased in the base of the blender.Unless you are a skillful technician and can trouble shoot the failings and be able to get a replacement part, you would have to pay someone else to repair it, that is if you could find someone who repairs small applainces, and it would cost you much, more than the 100 bucks you paid for the blender.

Hi, if you ruled out the gear box as a problem And it was running fine and then stopped you have a electrical issue. Start out testing the capacitors. If it did this the first time you hooked it up you probably have crossed a high leg with a the ground. The start capacitor in the mixer much match your power supply. In other words if your machine is 200 volt 1 ph. And you have 220 going to it with out a step down in place your capacitor is not closing . Again this is all based on the fact that the gear box has been eliminated a possible culprit.
